Magenta Quartet Plays Tvärvägen OUT NOW! This album is a collaboration between Tvärvägen and the experimental saxophone quartet Magenta Quartet. The compositions explore circular structures in several dimensions; through forms like the classical canon, phase-shifting, looping and sampling techniques as well as moving in circles through physical space itself. At the premiere concert at the Stockholm Jazz Festival in late 2024, the musicians seldom stood still, performing on foot, wandering ceaselessly through the audience. Instead of gazing at a stage ~ a sonic embrace. When the time came to transfer these sounds to a recording, the setting was recreated at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm, with surround miking capturing the live sounds of the musicians spread out and moving through space. The album will be released in a stereo version and a Dolby Atmos-version for compatible systems and streaming services. Stream everywhere. This Friday, 15th of May, my fellow Stockholmers have a chance to experience the beautiful music created when MAGENTA QUARTET PLAYS TVÄRVÄGEN at Rönnells Antikvariat. The event is also the launch of the highly anticipated record with the same name released by Hare Tracks. Back in October 2024 I had the pleasure of being present at the live premiere of this project at Musikaliska kvarteret. A wonderful evening where the four wind players of Magenta took the stage with graceful melodic minimalism. Chamber elegance meeting jazzy playfulness. Looping and restraint. Both uplifting and utterly relaxing. Evoking echoes of minimalist giants of the past but with a friendly and warm approach of its own. The musicians are all highly prolific names in other ensembles and solo; Pelle Westlin (Trio Ramberget), Julia Strzalek, Daniel Benett (Moratoriet) and Johannes Gammelgaard. Exclusively for that past concert the creative soul behind the Tvärvägen moniker, Henrik Öhberg, had riso-printed a sheet poster as a sweet give-away for us attendees. While I'm unfortunately out of town this weekend I can't wait to get my hands on the lavishly packaged vinyl. Today is the official day of our 10-year anniversary! In 2016 we had our first jam-session in Gothenburg (it was supposed to include a drummer but no one was available). From the first couple of minutes we noticed that this was something different. Maybe because the odd collection of instruments or was it that we knew we had found something special? Since the beginning it has always been easy creating music together and we have during the years created something unique. We have also developed a great way of working together around the music, recordings and concerts and we are very much looking forward to both this year and the next ten to come. Thank you to everyone supporting us during the years: Collaborations, bookings, labels, fans & listeners, photographers, designers, friends and family! <3 Pelle, Johanna and Gustav
