some details from the flyer for the last hfgt.exe event i helped put togetherrr:
slide 1-3: i found archival shots of jackson ward and a map of the area where the event happened. they used to call Jackson Ward little Africa bc of the black population and Richmond has ALWAYS been a black city.
slide 4: i met Tariq at one of the hfgt.exe events and i had no idea he ran a nonprofit at all. we dead met at a black underground club night lmfaoo and he contacted me and lmk that he wanted to collaborate. i named the event mycelial to fit the theme of the play and to describe the connection of the two orgs. we met in that independent and underground environment and saw our passion for black creativity. this event was another addition to the lineage of underground black creative networks of knowledge that have existed forever so it was so dope to be a part of thisss
side 5+6: these are images from Hiram Maristany. he was a photographer of The Young Lords and in all his work he made an effort to photograph puerto Rican, afrolatino, black and cultured people in Harlem to show that there were very real ppl living there and the city was neglecting and destroying the living space. him and the Young Lords work helped to display environmental discrimination in their area.
im so happy i had the chance to research and work on this and I cant wait to do more like this laterrr. i may even run this concept back

this set was an experience of live tech exploration for meee.
I didn't know CDJs were an industry standard for a lot of electronic music and underground DJs when I was younger. I need more time to mess with CDJs if imma be using them at sets but im super resistant. I don't know how to scratch on them, dropping songs feels unnatural, and the fx is still something I need to play with. i was still able to get comfy late in my set and that was a good feeling
