It was midnight. I was waiting for the metro to take me to the next station.
Meanwhile, I could smell a strange scent, something like plastic from a petrol company mixed with steel, the smell of my childhood.
I could hear drops of water, and the singing of mice, as if they had found a fresh body that had died only moments ago. The mice were singing like they were in music classes, disciplined, almost academic.
It reminded me of my June mornings in Saint Petersburg. My flat was in front of a music college. Those mice sang like the students from the school across the street. What a lucky man I was, in June, waking up to opera, and at night, after a soirée, falling asleep to a mice symphony.
I don’t like that name.
Maybe Rat Symphony.
Yes, they are rats. Rats have more valor and bravery than mice. Mice live in laboratories, like people who work in offices. They obey.
They are rats.
We are rats.
Shakespeare was a rat.
Rats have style.
