What a beautiful night celebrating you and over 28 years of pushing forward with your monumental contribution to film. Congratulations my darling! And that speech… 🤗 @pedebevec 💕 @theacademy@madridglow 💄 @paulamiyashiro 💇🏽♀️
The Academy honored Paul Debevec with a Technical Achievement award for his lit work at the annual SciTech Awards on April 28 at the Academy Museum. His pioneering work in high dynamic range image-based lighting techniques lets VFX artists record light (sources and colors) in a scene, and recreate that light on CGI characters or objects added to that scene to make them properly lit, as if they're there. It has been used in dozens of films including: X-Men (2000), Iron Man, Deadpool 2, Matrix, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Lilo and Stitch - for Stitch! Paul's partner Tia Carrere, who stars in the Lilo & Stitch live action and original animated movies, surprise-photobombed our interview to support him.
Congrats @pedebevec on your impressive and well-deserved award! Paul has spoken at several of our Digital LA events.
