This project was a pretty special project, the customer was very relaxed and was happy for us to exercise our knowledge though-out. It consisted of a full rewire, including all lighting and power; air source heat pump; full network Cat6 cabling; full audio system throughout; all external automated lighting.
The main living area of the property is something special! We have specifically designed the lighting and audio to work with our client's needs and joinery within the room. We don't just install downlights; the design is what finishes the project and gives the customer the wow factor at the end. The detailed design is what makes the job! For this, we have chosen to use black baffled plaster in fittings, which gives the light a fully submersed look, not only this but the way the fittings are designed means they don't illuminate the room as such, but they create a cone of light giving a real elegant classy feel.
With the roof lantern, we chose to use a corner aluminium LED profile. This served two purposes, 1 for the electric blind to run along as the blind company wanted to use a white L section of steel (horrid), and 2 we could create a halo of light. The profile was cut to within the MM as we wanted the joints to be nearly invisible, which proved to be a task when coming to the 45-degree cuts in the corner. But the outcome was incredible! The LED is fully dimmable and we have used warm white (3000K) as the temperature of light.
The audio system is a fully wired setup. We used Q acoustic 8" speakers in the ceiling (fully boxed in from above for the deeper richer punch), backed up by a subwoofer conveniently hidden within the joinery. All this is controlled via multiple sonos amplifiers located in the AV rack. We have also wired the TV to play through the auto system so the client can get fully submersed in whatever they choose to watch. The client has full control over the audio via their phone for multiple areas of the property, meaning they don't have to listen to the same music in each room.
This client approached us with nothing more than a vision, and we helped him to bring that vision to fruition. He was happy to listen to our ideas and for every step of the project, he would allow us to practise our ideas, with great success! The garden was a fantastic area for us to exercise our creativity and come up with an outstanding final result. We used feature pillar lighting around select areas of the garden to give the grass a wash of light. The lighting on the posts was simple feature lights to give a downwash of light, the same as used in the fire pit area.
This project was a fantastic project and would go as far as to say it's up there with one of the best we've done, in regards to the workmanship and finished product.
Rear garden electrical spec:
The lighting is controlled via a photocell and time clock with an override function. Meaning the lights are fully automated during certain times and levels of light, but giving the customer the option to override if they are having a party/keep them on longer. We have also blended the outdoor kitchen into the garden lights, meaning a feature light will be on in the bar when the garden lights are on, but still have the option to turn more lights on from inside the bar for when he's cooking/serving guests. The feature light has specifically been installed to glow through the slatted wall when standing in the house. The bulb we used for this was a warm vintage style as we wanted more of a glow rather than workable light. The lighting consists of a black LED profile around the top perimeter of the cladded walls within the bar, giving a warm dimmable downwash of light over black cladding walls. We have also installed feature spotlights within the roof space of the bar, focusing on the main cooking areas (BBQ, Ceramic egg and sink). This was a trophy feature to the garden design and finish, so much design and thought went into this and the customer is very happy with the outcome.

This design was to illuminate a £20,000 block of salt... that's correct. 20 thousand. It is a very old block of pink salt that was carried by the camel caravans across the Sahara desert (as pictured). We have used an equal mixture of 24v warm white (3000K) and cool white (4000K) LED tape to give the salt block a nice even glow. The block of salt will be stood up in front of the enclosure. We have used a black brush strip to stop the light from spilling out from behind, we want the light forced through the salt block. We also used dimmable drivers and we wanted to control the glow that is given off from the salt block.
