Happy Beltane! May is my most favourite month, and last night driving along Cornish roads so narrow the trees touched over head and the banks were blue and white and pink, and then running through the woods as blue as the eye could see, was pretty magical.
Too many selfies looking at me - quick here’s some other things from the last week. First pontoon shots of the season, first four boys terrace drinks, lilacs.
Most of today we celebrate Pip but it is nice to find a quiet few mins as it also marks the day my/our life changed irreversibly. Each new stage as a parent is a challenge, and 14 brings a whole host of new fears and joys. That sense of awe and simultaneously feeling we are winging it, just trying not to fuck it up, has not left; the cause and consequences just changes a bit. Thanks @caratakesphotos for these photos!
At the time I thought maybe it was a little self-indulgent but did it anyway, and I’m so glad I did ask @pollygeal.photo to take these photos. Can’t believe that that little (large) baby is 10 tomorrow. He made it his baby mission to pull off that necklace and succeeded one day about six months later - scattering what I really hope was a faux pearl and a paste diamond never to be seen again. It was a pre-baby treasure from a church yard sale. The scarf came from a vintage shop in Crouch End but was Liberty and was my first Mothering Sunday present to myself after Pip was born. The dress was anthropology and I bought it after seeing @rebeccawooolf looking serene in her version while pregnant. As her Girls Gone Child was the first mom blog I ever read way back in my super early blogging days it seemed fitting to wear it for these photos. I can barely believe a whole decade has passed since Polly took these (until I catch sight of my face in a mirror & then I can!)
Work parent sleep run repeat - sunshine has been a welcome visitor ☀️ as has watching @nasa images as a reminder we are too invested in borders and hate and really it is love and humanity that matters 🍷
Suddenly it’s light until 7pm and the pontoon is back. The banks are filled with primroses and blossom is appearing everywhere. After months and months of gloom, and despite continuing global awfulness every which way, you just have to enjoy the small things 🌸
A few snaps from our Cornish Christmas and New Year to round off 2025 🥂 counting what we do have, missing absent friends & luxuriating in a lovely few days off to enjoy where we live. @mart_buch_wine (& my kids of course but not posting those)
