There’s no better time to start pole than now! No, you don’t need to wait until you have upper body strength. No, you don’t have to wait until you’re stronger. No, you don’t have to wait until you feel confident. We’re here to help you feel stronger, feel more confident, and embrace the expression of who you are through pole and dance. Pole is for every body, every gender, everyone. And that is at the heart of what we do at PDC. We want you to feel good in your skin, have fun, and build connections in our cozy pole community. We have a multitude of classes available for beginners to start their journey and grow their skills. We help you build the strength and coordination required for pole moves progressively, so you can further your goals safely. We don’t have an Intro to Pole class, but our Pole Tricks 1 (focused on moves) and our Beginner Pole Choreography (focused on a dance) are excellent places to start. So stop waiting and start doing. Let’s make your workout fun. 💪

Life is better upside down. 🙃 Level 2 is the beginning of a student’s invert journey and continues to challenge and build upon strength from Level 1. In order to attend Level 2 classes, students must be able to successfully and consistently perform the following movements: •Climb the pole •Chair spin •Complete 10 knee tucks without rest •Pole sit •Jasmine •Apprentice You will work on foundational movements including inverts, outside and inside leg hangs, and butterflies. We will be using a lot of skin grip, so pole shorts are a must have.

One of the great joys of being an instructor is seeing our students succeed in the pole goals they take on. We’ve leveled up so many folks in the last year it blows our minds. 🤯 With our progressive teaching style, we help you advance as far as you want to go. Level 3 classes are our high intermediate classes at the studio. These will introduce a variety of movements like aerial inverts, shoulder mounts, and extended butterflies. In order to attend Level 3 classes, students must be able to successfully and consistently perform the following movements on both sides: •Invert (no kicking) •Outside leg hang •Inside leg hang •Cross knee release or cross ankle release •Butterfly Level 4 classes are our most advanced classes at the studio. These classes will focus on advanced aerial combos and movements like aerial shoulder mounts and ayeshas. In order to attend Level 4 classes, students must be able to successfully and consistently perform the following movements on both sides: •Extended butterfly •Aerial invert •Shoulder mount If you’re a more advanced poler visiting us from another studio or out of town, feel free to email us at [email protected] or DM us. We’d love to get you in the right level while you’re visiting.

We’ve got some exciting news!!! We’re welcoming two new instructors to the PDC crew: Christina and Audrey. Plus, a new class! 🥳🎉 After a nine-year hiatus, Christina returned to her love of pole three years ago while solo traveling throughout the Northwest. Once she landed back in KC, she was looking for a talented and supportive space to continue her pole journey and is grateful to have found that in PDC. Pole provides her the opportunity to explore her creativity through flow while building her strength in an effort to make everything look easy. She’ll be taking over Open Pole on Sundays and teaching a new class called Slow Flow on Tuesday evenings at 8:15 pm starting May 19. Slow Flow will focus on soft, slinky and contemporary pole choreographies to wind down your Tuesday evenings. Audrey is starting in the summer, joining us to help out with our intermediate levels. Audrey has been drawn to dance and circus arts for as long as she can remember. Four years ago, she stepped into the circus world and discovered pole by chance—quickly becoming obsessed. Blending dance and diverse movement styles, she found pole to be a powerful creative outlet to explore strength, sensuality, and grace. She’s passionate about helping students build confidence and connect with their movement. She’s excited to teach at PDC and be part of a space where pole is safe, inclusive, and fun. Drop a welcome in the chat ⬇️ and even better, come join us for a class. ☺️

Thank you to everyone who came to our “Express, Not Repress” showcase a few weekends ago. Just wow. Truly our best showcase to date. All the performers came to the show with such unique and powerful expressions. We got a little sexy. We felt a little rage. We cried a bit. And we sprinkled in a little sass, ass, and whimsy for good measure. We were able to donate more than $570 to @airr_kc ❤️

Real talk: a lot of what’s posted on Instagram is the best of the best in pole. It’s the perfect run throughs. The hardest tricks. The most insane choreos. It’s aspirational and intimidating. We’ve all seen some of the stuff posted under #pdbeginner 👀 Beginner my 🍑 So here’s what we actually do in Pole Tricks 1. We help you build a solid foundation in pole (no, you actually don’t have to wait until you get some more upper body strength before trying a class). You’ll learn some spins, pole sits, climbs, and more. Each move has progressions. We meet you where you’re at that day. Got questions about trying pole? Drop ‘em in the comments.

“Where I once would fear the cost of truth, now I only ask: What is the cost of lies?” This quote continues to haunt me from the HBO miniseries Chernobyl. It’s been something I’ve thought a lot about: the cost of lies. What happens when the “truth” is flexible? What happens when we dilute facts? What happens when a government so boldly, so blatantly tells you to defy what you see, what you hear? When truth losses its meaning… what the hell do we do? What we are seeing across the country is horrifying: the blatant kidnapping of immigrant communities, violation of due process, the killing and suppression of protesters, the suppression of dissent online, the harassment and detention of journalists. This is an assault on our democracy. Full stop. At PDC, we firmly believe that as a collective, we can better the world around us. All we have to do is try. The times are overwhelming, horrifying, and unbelievable, but doing nothing breeds nothing. Apathy does not change the world. So, for this weekend we are offering a special deal through Groovio. It’s called “Ice Out.” It’s 3 classes for $45. It’ll be available starting Saturday morning and through Sunday so we can ice out credit card processing today. These classes expire after 60 days. All proceeds will be donated to Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR). We’re in the works on planning our next showcase as well to further raise funds for @airr_kc . More info on that to come later. Our modern age bombards us with information constantly, and this administration uses it to their advantage. Because being overwhelmed often paralyzes. You can’t do everything at once. But you can do something. Whether that’s donating or calling government officials or protesting or volunteering or many of the other ways to become involved in shaping the future of your community—it all matters. This is a marathon, not a sprint. We hope we are a space you feel safe in and welcomed. We love seeing you all connect to one another both inside and outside our studio. Community is a powerful force. Hope is a powerful force. Never lose either.
