What a challenge! The client’s brief: no mechanical fixings, the whole roof mortice and tenoned, slip-tenoned with oak dowels, all made from green oak and reusing existing timbers. It’s tested every skill we have—but this is exactly why we love traditional joinery. Crafting something by hand that will last generations never gets old.

Recreating a roof to match exactly meant cutting a 9-inch bow into a purlin freehand with a chainsaw, then morticing, tenoning, and doweling it all together - a true test of skill. Stressful? Absolutely. Worth it? Without a doubt. The end result was fantastic.
