Not every animal at PBHSN is ready for the shelter environment while they wait for their forever home. Some are stressed, recovering, shy or just need a little extra love and comfort outside of the kennel. 🐾 That’s where fostering changes everything. We’re participating in the Foster 50 Challenge and our goal is to welcome 30 new fosters over the next 2 months. Even opening your home temporarily can make a life-changing difference for an animal in need. Some of these dogs have been homeless for years. Not because they’re unlovable. Not because they’re bad dogs. But because people see barking, jumping or stressed behavior through a kennel door and decide they’re “scary” before ever giving them a chance. Some dogs bark for attention. Patches hides away instead. Every time someone walks past her kennel, she lowers her head and quietly retreats to the corner as if she’s scared to trust the world around her. And honestly, maybe she has a reason to be. Patches came to us from Georgia, and while we may never know her full story, those sad eyes tell us enough. Beneath all of her fear is a sweet dog who desperately wants to feel safe, loved and chosen. Sue breaks our hearts a little every time we see her scared. She barks in her kennel and gets overwhelmed meeting new people, especially men. Sometimes her fear becomes so intense that you can physically see how anxious and shut down she feels. We may never fully know what caused that fear, but it’s clear that trust has not always come easy for her. But if you slow down, if you give her patience, kindness and space to feel safe, you start to see the real Sue. The tail wags.
