Formed in the early 2000s by members of Violation of Trust, Line of Defense and Outlaw, the band quickly built a reputation for aggressive music and explosive live performances. Blending the raw attitude of New York hardcore with the power and heaviness of the European scene, the band built a reputation for high-energy shows and uncompromising dedication to hardcore.
Their debut album OldSchoolWarriors (IScream Records, 2004) captured the raw spirit of early-2000s hardcore, while their follow-up Ultraviolent (IScream Records, 2008) delivered a darker and heavier evolution of the band’s sound.
Over the years PAYBACK shared the stage with major hardcore acts including Madball, Terror, 25 ta Life and Born From Pain, building a loyal following across Europe.

Oceans Turn Red is a five-piece metal band from the north of the Netherlands. Inspired by deathcore, metalcore, and hardcore, the band delivers a heavy, straightforward sound focused on intensity and energy. Vandaag on stage in de huiskamer bij Live & Puur:
@payback_hardcore is zo’n band waar je niet omheen kunt als je het hebt over de fundamenten van de hardcore in de Lage Landen. Onmiskenbare Eurocore, recht uit de onderbuik, maar altijd met een gevoel voor groove, dynamiek en karakter. In de jaren waarin het underground landschap zich vormde tot wat we nu kennen, was PAYBACK een van de bands die mee duwde, trok en bouwde. Niet door trends te volgen, maar door hun eigen koers te varen en die met overtuiging vol te houden.
Wat PAYBACK bijzonder maakt, zit niet alleen in de muziek. Deze band staat net zo bekend om de brute kracht op het podium als om de gezelligheid en de goede gesprekken ernaast. Voor en na de show is er ruimte voor verhalen, reflectie en verbinding. Dat sociale aspect is geen bijzaak, maar een verlengstuk van wat hardcore voor hen betekent: samenkomen, elkaar scherp houden en dezelfde passie delen, ongeacht leeftijd of achtergrond.
Na een pauze van twaalf jaar besloot de band begin 2025 dat het tijd was om de stilte te doorbreken. Geen nostalgische reünie, geen halfslachtige comeback, maar een bewuste herstart. PAYBACK klinkt vandaag de dag als een band die precies weet waar ze vandaan komt, zonder daarin te blijven hangen. De ervaring van toen wordt ingezet als fundament, maar de blik is onmiskenbaar vooruit. Dat hoor je terug in nieuw werk dat strak, fel en relevant is, met teksten en energie die resoneren met zowel oude bekenden als een nieuwe generatie luisteraars.
Live vertaalt zich dat naar shows die niets aan duidelijkheid te wensen overlaten. Geen franje, geen omwegen, gewoon volle overgave. PAYBACK speelt alsof elke set telt, en dat gevoel slaat over. Het is die combinatie van controle en loslaten die de band zo overtuigend maakt, en die hen nog altijd een vaste plek geeft binnen het huidige underground circuit.
