Front Door Cabinet was designed on commission from @gemeenteassen . The cabinet is constructed as an assemblage of shapes and fragments derived from front doors. In this work, the front door symbolizes the many worlds that exist behind the doors of a city: every door is different, and behind each one lies a story. The cabinet incorporates instruments and tools used by the municipality to better align communication and participation with specific communities. It creates space to explore different approaches for each project and context. Methods that resonate with the residents of Assen behind their front doors. Commissioned by: Municipality of Assen Concept & Design: Paul&Albert Production: @studio_bijt , @wouterploegje Glass: @ballastbonekamp Photography: @roelof_bos_fotografie Bos #conceptualdesign #spatialdesign #installationart #publicdesign #dutchdesign

Freedom is Fluid was commissioned by @80jaarvrijheidgroningen (an initiative of @museumaandea ) and realized as a closing gesture of the commemorative year, as well as a lasting marker in the landscape. With Freedom is Fluid, we give form to freedom. Not as something fixed, but as something whose meaning constantly evolves. It is fluid. And only when it is threatened or lost do we truly feel how essential it is. Freedom is Fluid is a bronze maple stump, placed in the Bevrijdingsbos near Groningen—a quiet presence among thousands of living trees. The stump appears to partially lose its solid form. At its base, the bronze seems to melt and flow outward, as if the tree itself has become partly liquid. At the heart of the stump, a date is inscribed: a historical anchor point marking the moment freedom was regained. Around this date, the tree rings become increasingly irregular as they extend outward. In this way, the work illustrates how freedom evolves over time: layered, mutable, and continually reshaped by the context of the moment. Bevrijdingsbos Groningen consists of 30,000 maple trees and was planted in 1995 as a tribute to the Canadian liberators of Groningen. Commissioned by: @80jaarvrijheidgroningen , @museumaandea Project Lead: Kim van Steenwijk Concept, Design: Paul&Albert Advice: @martinhillenga Production: @bronsgieterijvanderkleij Casting model, Installation: @firmabuitelaar 3D Model: @by.baikel , @andreferwerda Tree Scan: Wybren van Keulen Photography: @sebastiaan_rodenhuis

For @museumaandea , ‘Writing History’ was developed: an autonomous art installation in which an industrial robot arm literally writes, and then erases, history within a glass display. The installation makes visible how the present constantly becomes the past. What appears on the glass can disappear again within seconds. In this way, a continuous movement emerges, showing that history is not static but constantly being recreated. The robot arm is programmed to operate completely autonomously. It writes with a marker, erases with a sponge, and draws its content from an extensive database of historical facts from Groningen and illustrations. In addition, it incorporates real-time data such as water levels, traffic flows, and weather conditions. This ensures that the installation remains continually up-to-date and ever-changing. 02.12.2025 > ‘Collectie Groningen: Offline’ by Paul&Albert The renewed website collectiegroningen.nl has been live since 21 November: a platform where anyone can digitally explore the collections of dozens of museums in Groningen. You can also experience that digital journey in real life, temporarily, in the exhibition ‘Collectie Groningen: Offline’ in the former Niemeyer factory.
