By the late 1970s, Salsoul Records had become one of New York City’s hottest and most successful labels. In legendary clubs like Paradise Garage and Studio 54, it was almost guaranteed you’d hear at least five Salsoul tracks over the course of a night.
Their sound travelled globally, driven in part by a rich cultural mix of styles. While they may not have reached the same level of dominance as Motown, they comfortably sat alongside heavyweights like Philadelphia International and Buddha Records.
Blending salsa, disco, soul, and early electronic club sounds, Salsoul built a catalogue that still holds legendary status in dance music today.
Their in-house group, The Salsoul Orchestra, mirrored the label itself—capable of real highs, but not without inconsistency. This 1976 album has standout moments, though it’s undeniably patchy in places.
The person in marketing obviously had tricks up their sleeve to optimise shifting a few units however and we like to think his yearly bonus was given some thought.
Sleeve in VG condition, the edges have seen better days and its been loved and used over the years for sure. But no ring wear and all cover artwork very presentable.
We told you about a batch of second hand vinyl that arrived last week in our Alcantara store. Its always a good day when a batch of second hand records arrive. Approx 200 titles - Soul, Funk, Jazz, World Music, Disco and lots of curiosities. All needs a good sort through, cleaning and of course listening! They will be hitting our racks early next week.
