4 years in the making, my debut EP “Call It What You Will” is being released on all streaming platforms, Bandcamp and SoundCloud today! This resume comprised of six of my most tested and familiar songs offers a credo, of sorts, that accurately summarizes the core of my songwriting. From the opening, contemplative mood of “Call It What You Will” to the more joyful and liberating beats of “A Kid in the Rain”, it’s a 25 minute journey of learning to live in a constantly changing and imperfect world.
The songs on this recording were written between 2016 and 2018 amidst my own Saturn return; a time of massive re-evaluation and change in my life that are directly embedded in their mood and lyrical tone. “Call It What You Will” and “While You Can” reflect on the struggle to accept yourself and your limitations in a world that constantly asks perfection of you (“Behind the smile can you see the mess? / It don’t mean I’m broken, just a work in progress”). “Gaze Into” and “I’d Love To” explore the endless curiosity and beautiful rigidness of falling in love (“Slowly we go into the unknown / Hand in hand we’ll get by”). The 90’s inspired power-rocker “neverLand” explores what it means to question the world and your place in it (Where do you turn to, where do you belong / When the good isn’t always right and the bad isn’t always wrong?”). Finally “A Kid in the Rain” invites us all to indulge in our joys and then “Spread it around”.
“Call It What You Will” is here to remind us that while the world may be a dark place, we still do well to enjoy the things that make it beautiful. Simply, “We’re only doing the best we can…until we come up with a better plan.”
