And over @the2ndserve , I reviewed “Dad Had A Bad Day,” a brilliant pitch black tennis novel about the worst SAHDman around by @apolitanoff . It got the @giricube blurb of approval, so you know this thing delivers, Tsitsipas-ian it ain’t. Link/Bio

For @operawire , I talked the folks behind “The Post Office,” a new @bam_brooklyn production with @aopopera . It all takes place in that most democratic of American institutions, albeit one haunted by the ghost of Ben Franklin. Go ring in the 250th fighting for the people’s postal service. Libretto: @elainesexton Music: Laura Kaminsky Director: @kevinnewbury Set designer: Charles Renfro @diller_scofidio_renfro Link/Bio

We had the biggest back room @squawkinsports event yet. 45+ to hear @donkeycommish tell his stomach Trainspotting in Scotland horrors, @leanderalphabet profess his love for the @usmnt leader Alexi Lalas and @david_j_roth pimping Kearney NJ. And 55 cake! As usual the best show going. Join us 6/11 for Bigfoot night with @gianocromley and @centerforhighenergymetaphysics !

ALL KINDS OF BOOK STUFF ( LINKS/BIO): 1) @crimereads interview w/ @1harrisonhill about “The Oracle’s Daughter,” a literal cult classic about Sarah Green, who escaped her Mom’s depraved violent apocalyptic Agressive Chrisianity Missions Training Corps. (To BK, natch). 2) For @operawire , a review of “Opera Wars,” an in the trenches look at all that’s right and wrong in the beautiful art form. @caitlincvincent is of and apart from that world, one stagnating thanks to the Maintain Arias Geriatrically, Amen crowd. Great lay of the opera land for dilettantes like me. 3) 5/14: @squawkinsports LIVE XXI: WORLD CUP EDITION as @david_j_roth welcome @leanderalphabet on the long slog of the @usmnt & @donkeycommish on the English world of relegation. Pints abound. 4) 5/19 BROOKLYN CHATS: JIMMY BRESLIN NIGHT If JB is good enough for Son of Sam, you’re good enough to join @esposito7269 @greenlightbklyn & I at @barheretic.bk HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, ALL. The only play I’ve seen multiple versions of is the great American masterwork: @salesmanonbroadway of a Salesman. Brian Denhey, PSH, Wendell Pierce all brought something to the role of Willy Loman I’d never seen. I was skeptical of Nathan Lane—who I adore, The Producers was life-affirming—and damn if he and director Joe Montello didn’t take Arthur Miller to a whole other place I couldn’t have conjured up in my brain. Incredible staging, performances, and the most hard-hitting sons and killer Laurie Metcalf performances going. If you have the wherewithal in NYC, go see it. You’ll feel things you weren’t quite sure you could feel. Shoutout to my hoops buddy @picsoflos for getting tix. It rocks. I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time. Also got to take surreptitious pics of Marty & Meryl for my only Murders clan @kimmy.sauer & our prodigy.

Per usual, Squawkin’ crushed. Great chat that covered all the important topics: cocaine, feminist Isiah Thomas, hoop-loving nuns and Diana Turasi, living encyclopedia. Xoxo @david_j_roth @emmabacce @sporty.prof

When you see a framed GQ cover profile of Chris Tucker by the legend @author.richcohen , check the date and recall how much people loved to laugh at Chris Tucker’s wild antics in … August 2001 #LearningThingsFromTheBathroomWallsAtThePalm

There is nothing worse for a writer than making mistakes in print. I cop to fucking up some details in the Open #3 mag interview with @gabesgramcrack3rs but it happens. Here is the clean correction, which still gets to the point that tennis scoring is historically racist and classicist. I buy it. On behalf of @the2ndserve let’s try all try a straight point system. What say you @fortgreenetennis ? Link/bio

Over @truthdig , I wrote a meaty feature story on the unknown, unheralded, under appreciated story of Joe Louis civil rights activism. Here to drop some Brown Bomber knowledge on y’all from two historians and 78-year-old Joe Jr. himself.
