Some news: I'm now a
@rinse.fm resident. And some better news: I'm still not a DJ!
The station is expanding its programming to feature more conversational shows covering aspects of the club scene that warrant deep dives and attention, with journalists at the helm.
I want to use it as a space to spotlight interesting stories and crucial people in the grassroots, DIY heart of the culture — ppl who help make things happen, who push movements at their genesis, and who we all owe a lot of what’s good about this whole thing to, essentially. For the culture™️ not the capital.
Had to be
@s_e_b_w for my first guest, with a retrospective on his gamechanging
@tropicalwaste . In my view one of the best club nights of all time and inspirational for what it's achieved and how he's managed it.
From its Goldsmith uni radio show and blog origins to The Waiting Room and NTS residency era to a health enforced hiatus and the current Ormside and footwork focus, there's 15 years of history condensed into an hour. Plenty of highlights: many seminal UK debut bookings, Björk drinking a Stoke Newington basement dry of champagne, Arca scaling walls, footwork workshops in London. And there's some music too, with his perfect set opener, peak time track and set closer punctuating the conversation. Thank you Seb! And thank you Rinse, it's an honour to join.
I'm hosting a monthly slot (second Tuesday of the month from 12:PM-1:PM) so the first show is today. Next on August 12, etc.
