Oh man- I said I wasn’t gonna cry (but I might).
In an industry that has an unsure future, a world that is so heavy every day, and a state that has more land than people, sometimes we filmmakers begin to doubt ourselves. But the last week really cemented what I love about doing what I do.
In 2007 the Boston Celtics preached the concept of “Ubuntu” which is a concept of interconnectedness and selfless teamwork, literally meaning “I am because we are.”
Making things work in the face of adversity- weather, schedule, talent, external factors is a skill and when it works it works. While I don’t always love every second of every day, it’s the opportunity to share the experience with everyone I work with who is so good at their job and then laugh at the end that makes it worth it.
We hit the road for a week straight in every vehicle imaginable for a new PBS show touring Maine and we came back in one piece! There’s enough overhyping work on socials so I’m just here to talk about the people.
Really grateful for the Ubuntu- it’s what makes creativity flow! ❤️❤️❤️

Photos my grandfather Mark took @limerockpark sometime in the 60/70s? Not sure. But great nonetheless. Don’t know much about the cars or the drivers. But still love how little has changed at the track between then and now. Though the big trees in the paddock seen from the left hander are definitely no longer there.

Last batch of color photos. Shot a lot more, but a lot wasn’t great (soft focus, under exposed etc.). There are some more good ones that I’ll share eventually at some point.

Back to the color rolls for this post. We spent many days getting around Kolkata in these old soviet diesel cabs. Somehow, wherever we wanted to go, it was always 100 or 150 rupees. No seat belts, or emissions considerations at all. Smelly, unsafe, fast paced driving. Yet the cab drivers always knew exactly where we were headed and got us there safely. Though on our final cab ride to the airport, the throttle cable snapped in the cab we were in. The driver fixed it with a shoelace, but we eventually had to change cars to get us to the airport.

Shot more B&W than I remember in India. Really wish I shot only color as the city of Kolkata was so vibrant. I do have more color photos to share though.

In 2017 I went to Kolkata, India with @justinmartell , Adam Block, and Bedhan Ball. I brought a bunch of 35mm rolls with me and an old Paxette rangefinder camera and a Nikon slr. I never got around to developing the rolls and they sat in my closet for years. Finally I got them processed. Here are selects from one roll of that film. I believe these were taken in a small village in the Sunderbans region. More posts to follow as I get through the rolls.
