Autumn 1996 – And then “Beat Street” was shown on the TV channel VOX. I was paralyzed and equally inspired. Luckily I had recorded the movie on VHS. From then on I saw it two or three times a week. The movie confronted me with the New York lifestyle and gave me an overview of what hip hop meant. I started with graffiti and initially copied everything I saw in the movie. But most of all, I celebrated and practiced the moves. I was most fascinated by the “headspins” and the “swipes” from Tony Lopez aka Powerful Pexster.
Despite all of this, I was just a hobby breaker during this time. Somehow it all excited me, but I was too busy playing soccer, handball and streetball, snakeboarding and going to parties. There was a lot of dancing at these parties and I was often asked by friends to show a few moves. Driving further distances to other cities was not possible without a car and so at the age of 17 I remained more locally active. What was missing was the initial spark, the right environment and the opportunities.

Spring 1995 to summer 1996 – With the release of the first “Freestyle Vol. 1” CD, a new era of music began for me, which is still deeply connected in my roots today. “Tony Garcia’s - Take Me In Your Arms” was already known as a hit since its release in 1992, but experienced a second hype in the spring of 1995 thanks to this sampler. During this time, the song was in every deejay's playlist when it came to “breaking”.
I trained throughout the year in my basement at home. Once or twice a month we danced at various youth disco's at FORUM or at the former discotheque known as MEGA in Eggenfelden. With wild steps, my predecessors of top rock, I swept across the dance floor without knowing what I was actually doing. At that time there were no other sources for us than a few videos on VIVA and MTV. But that was about to change soon.
In July 1996 for the first time I met other breakers at a disco at school when I was playing music with a friend. The boys asked me to play something to “break”. I didn't really know what they meant and just put on some “freestyle music”. When I saw what they were doing on the dance floor, I immediately ran over and joined them. Here I noticed my future crewmate “Kai Kinkel” for the first time. We hardly knew each other, played football together and occasionally saw each other “skating”. We ultimately found each other through dancing.
