Matt is building a coaching business (Big Forest) to help guide people in their career and life and as part of that, he started this show. He interviewed me and then invited me to hang around with my podcast microphone and do my best Andy Richter / Sona Movsesian while we talk to really interesting people and try to glean wisdom.
Matt's a great interviewer / coach / guy and we just has a wide ranging convo with Penny Finnie, who went from teaching art to working at Ask Jeeves to starting a chocolate cafe to leading Egal, which makes period pads on a roll, now available in the Denver airport and elsewhere!
We've also spoken with Rahul Khopkar, chef at Ramen Hood @ramenhood in LA's Grand Central Market, Stephanie Hsia, landscape architect at Reed Hildebrand, and Nathan Howard, nuclear fusion scientist at MIT. Holy cow, Cubs win
An enormous honor to sing of the national anthem at Wrigley Field. A true dream for these lifelong baseball fans. And to sing it for some of the greatest players and managers in baseball no less!
Not to mention - that was one of the most exciting games I've ever witnessed in person. Cubs walkoff win in extra innings.

Nellie is 6! What! One day she will be a public defender and/or teacher but for now she is an excellent swimmer who can be picked up and snuggled as needed. We love her.
Belated for Monday. The internet gave me a video yesterday of latter day James Taylor singing this song with a big choir of unglamorous people of all shapes/colors/sizes. My dad left us nine years ago today. He used to play this album all the time in my early memories. It's very hard for me to feel like he didn't send me this song for this week.
2024 was an outrageously successful year here in Goodnight, Texas. Thank you for giving us a reason to keep going! We kicked things off in Portland with @portlandsfolkfestival in January right before a blizzard closed the city.

Our friend's son, when very young and petting Boonie, said, I miss you, Boonie! His mom said, you don't have to miss him, he's right here! But we adopted the phrase to articulate the feeling we had even then - pure love that is stronger than our central processing unit can handle all at once.
One time we came home to him sitting on the couch with the garbage can lid around his neck trying to be cool like, oh hi guys, how was your evening? Another time there were a lot of eggs broken on the kitchen floor but one intact on the bed, meaning he carried it lovingly in his mouth. In stealth attacks he ate 8 raw burgers, a pie crust, a stick of butter, loaves of bread, enough food from his food bag to cause him to increase very noticeably in size. In his later career Nellie the toddler called him Mimi and they were staunch allies in food smuggling.
It has been a year without a dogue named Boondoggle and now we miss him in the traditional sense. His snuggles were ever restorative, his trouble-doing notorious, his ears softer than technology can reproduce. He was beloved by grandparents, auntie, uncle, friends, acquaintances, and his girlfriend Julie. We were so lucky to have him. 🐕🦺❤️
