This print, “Filtering,” will be featured in the group exhibition “Through the Moving Press,” which will debut at the Arts in Motion Gala tonight, March 26th
@posthtx
The exhibition showcases works by students, alumni, and faculty from the University of Houston Katherine G. McGovern School of Art, curated by MFA Candidate Jai España, and all proceeds from the sale of these works will benefit student scholarships.
“Filtering” was created during my time at UH as I experimented with printmaking from the perspective of a sculptor, guided by the expertise of master printmaker Patrick Masterson. Creating my own ink from coffee grounds, with the help of
@lwagner13 , I was able to depict my own eyes onto recycled coffee filters and paper.
In this work, I draw a parallel between the physical act of filtering and the way vision mediates our experiences. By layering the eye with organic forms, I soften the image and emphasize the quiet, intuitive moment before perception becomes interpretation.
This exhibit can be seen through April 9th.
Total of 12 prints, 14 x 11 inches — two available at this event.
