It was a pleasure to be invited to the 5th anniversary celebrations over the weekend, at the @heskethbankcommunitycentre .
The event brought together local residents, organisations and groups to showcase the wide range of activities, support networks and opportunities available across Hesketh Bank and the surrounding area.
The day included children’s activities, community stalls, refreshments and anniversary celebrations, highlighting the important role the centre continues to play within the local community.
Community centres like this provide immense value to close-knit areas such as Hesketh Bank, Tarleton and Banks, supporting both mental and physical wellbeing, and bringing people together in meaningful ways. Their importance truly cannot be overstated.

Following up on the visual arts roundtable I help a couple months back, today I visited Tony Heaton in his studio in the town centre.
Tony has had an illustrious career in the arts and is a brilliant creative asset to our town.
It was great to see some of his sculptural work up close, discuss potential future projects, and continue our conversation about the future of Southport’s arts scene.

I want to thank the @thelearningrooms1 for inviting me to visit yesterday and learn more about their fantastic work in our community.
A non-profit organisation, The Learning Rooms provides day support for adults with learning difficulties, disabilities and additional needs across Southport.
They also run Hub Grub, a community-priced meal service, alongside Talkin’ Tables, a Luncheon Club and a range of activities aimed at reducing isolation and bringing people together.

Building on what made Sure Start work so well, these hubs will help parents access childcare, advice and support all in one place.
This will come as part of a wider plan to deliver 1,000 Family Hubs nationally.

I was shocked by the news this morning that BP have posted profits doubling since the start of the war in Iran, while ordinary people across this constituency and beyond continue to struggle with cost of living pressures.
This is profiteering, plain and simple. Companies should not be allowed to exploit a war to line their pockets at the expense of working people.
That is why I am backing the government's proposals for an Oil and Gas Price Mechanism, a windfall tax that kicks in when oil prices spike above a certain threshold. It is the right response, and I have written to the Secretary of State today urging him to bring it forward without delay.
This Earth Day I was invited down to attend The Hearth Space Earth Day gathering in the Town Hall Gardens on Lord Street, with this years theme, 'Our Power, Our Planet'.
The event included the Southport Memory Quilt, a community exhibition and textile workshop developed over recent months, the Community Ledger where attendees were invited to leave written messages, and the Earth Day Peace Circle.
The gathering emphasised the importance of Earth Day as a marker for local residents to come together through shared values of community activity and participation.

This weekend I was invited to Funland to present a £2,000 cheque from the British Amusement Catering Trade Association to Friends of Kings Gardens Southport.
This forms part of ongoing support to help the group continue its work in King's Gardens, maintaining the space and contributing to its upkeep for the benefit of residents and visitors.
It's fantastic to see funding going towards the continued efforts of keeping the gardens tidy, cared for and well presented as a crucial part of the wider town environment.

Following a letter I sent to the Secretary of State last month, I’ve now secured a meeting with ministers to discuss what can be done to prevent @queenscourthospice from having to reduce vital services.
I’ll keep doing everything I can, both locally and in Westminster, to support Queenscourt.

At times like this, community support really matters.
I raised NHS waiting times in Parliament this week, an issue I know that deeply matters to people here in Southport and the Northern Parishes.
Waiting lists have fallen here by 13,000 in the past year. Real progress, but there's much more to do.
If we are to reverse the years of neflect and underinvestment into our NHS, we need to keep the focus on patients, not politics.

It was a pleasure to welcome @angelaraynermp to Southport, visiting Bishop David Sheppard School and speaking with local residents.
A big thank you to the school for inviting us in and giving us the chance to meet some of their brilliant pupils and dedicated staff.
As Labour’s free breakfast clubs, 30 hours of free childcare, and action to cut the cost of school uniforms are rolled out, it’s great to see first-hand the difference this support is making in schools like this.
We also had a really valuable conversation with staff about the challenges they’re facing, helping to inform both myself and Angela as we continue working to support our schools and families.
