Inspired by A Moveable Feast, Hemingway used the phrase to describe the enduring power of formative experiences and creative communities - something that continues to nourish and shape us throughout our lives.
As he famously wrote, “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”
“A Moveable Feast is a tribute to my good fortune in finding my way as an artist in Charleston over the past 30 years,” John Duckworth says. “I am deeply grateful to have been surrounded by such an extraordinary community of artists whose talent, friendship, and dedication have continually inspired me. The creative spirit of Charleston has shaped not only my work, but my life. These experiences stay with you - carried forward through every painting, every conversation, and every generation of artists that continues to keep this city’s artistic legacy alive.”
This exhibition celebrates three decades of Charleston artists, friendships, and creative exchange - honoring the enduring influence of the people and places that make art not only possible, but lasting.
Group Exhibition opens Saturday May 16th, 5-8pm. Featuring Gradual Lean jazz band, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Exhibit runs through June 29th. Duckworth Gallery, 120 Meeting Street (entrance on Queen).
