There's something about seeing your work on display. A sense of achievement that makes all the work worth it and a gentle reminder and assurance of why you must carry on doing what you're doing.
In case someone needed to hear this today, keep doing what you're doing, don't give up, you're doing absolutely amazing. 💫

Creativity was never loud where we come from. It didn’t arrive with applause or permission, it was passed gently, like a whisper between generations. From mother to child, to grandchild ... in the way hands remember, in the way stories are told without being written, in the quiet knowing of how to make something out of feeling.
We come from a culture that celebrates this soft power, the kind that doesn’t demand attention but shapes everything. It lives in the rhythm of daily life, in the colors we choose, in the way we hold memory and turn it into expression.
It’s not just art. It’s inheritance.

Taking it back to the time @southernafricaarts hosted a #creativeeconomyweek mixer powered by @hausofstone_showroom , for an evening that led to conversations on identity.
It took me back to my roots, as an individual and to the work we are doing at #PatCh, an extension of the legacies handed down by our forebearers, and stretching it so that it can go forward.
I was grateful to have been awarded the opportunity to share my journey and thoughts around creating from a point of being cognisant of who [I/we] really [am/are] as a [person/people] and how this can strengthen the stories we tell through our craft collectively.💫
If we can open up our minds and hearts to unlearning cultures, systems and habits that are foreign to us, and shift our mindsets to learning from our indigenous knowledge systems, we will be able to play our part in crafting a #proudlyzimbabwean future🇿🇼

Creative DNA x Studio Smithfield Fashion Residency Part 1, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 🇪🇹
Reflections:
Ethiopia reminded me that we are not starting from nothing.
We carry immense wealth in our indigenous knowledge systems, craftsmanship, and culture. What we are doing now is continuing, evolving, and reimagining what has always been.
We often look so far for inspiration, yet it is right here at home.
Sankofa — it is important to look back in order to move forward. There is power in embracing our roots.
Connect. Listen. Learn. Share. This is the strength of community—and we remain relevant when we continue to learn.
Share more about your work. You never know who you are helping, or who is watching and listening.
Sebenza girl… put in the work without excuses. Everything else will align.
But also—all work and no play makes Chido a dull girl 😊(I definitely danced a couple of times 💃🏿)
It was deeply fulfilling to witness families of weavers and spinners making an honest living from age-old artisanal practices—skills that are not just preserved, but lived daily.
I’m carrying all of this with me, stepping forward with greater intention—and a commitment to share more along the journey.
Grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime investment in the growth and development of #PatCh.

The first three designers selected for the Creative DNA x Studio Smithfield programme are Solome Asfaw (@xufan_wear ) from Ethiopia, Karoline Vitto (@karolinevitto ) from London and Chido Kaseko (@patch_maoko_ezim ) from Zimbabwe.
The designers will first travel to Ethiopia for a 10 day exploration of craft and fashion, led by programme partner @iceaddis . This is followed by a 6-week residency at Studio Smithfield in London, including a free studio space, business mentoring and showcasing opportunities.
When you carry a PatCh bag, you carry hours of human craftsmanship.
This is just a gentle reminder for you to wear it knowing how it was made.😊💫

Crafted from earth, Sculpted from leather, Woven by hand.💫
Nothing rushed.
Nothing wasted.
Everything considered.
This is what slow, intentional luxury looks like.

What does #zerowaste really mean?
Reusing waste is an african way of life. It comes natural to add value to things that would've been otherwise thrown away.
For us, it begins with seeing value where others see excess. Turning waste into raw materials.
Leather offcuts that would normally be discarded are carefully selected, cut, and shaped into a handbag meant to be worn for years.
A cow horn—once overlooked, destined for waste—is transformed by @africa_reflections into a sculptural handle, honouring the tradition and craft behind it.
Every decision in this piece is deliberate.
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is wasted.
This is our way of respecting materials, preserving traditional resources, and creating fashion that is mindful of where it comes from and where it will go.
Sustainability, to us, isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention, responsibility, and appreciation.
This is zero-waste as a practice.
This is #PatCh #MaokoeZimbabwe.
