BIG PANTS CAMPAIGN | BTS
Had a lot of people ask a ton about the past few Mundaynes Promos lately, and with the release of Big Pants NOW LIVE, I guess I'll try my best to be helpful ✨ Luckily,
@clairepgraham was amazing enough to capture almost everything in between her acting takes on set, so I actually have enough to make this post worth it.
Firstly, the one thing every fucking person who comes up to me wants to know: Yes everything is in fact shot on actual VHS camcorder - there's 2 main camcorders; a Panasonic NV-VZ1 from the late 90s, and a shoulder mounted Panasonic M10 from the 80s.
It all goes to a capture device/tablet that connects directly to the AV ports of both rigs that lets me record straight to memory card in real time, so I don't have to record to VHS and convert everything later (I'll do another post on this another time).
Once I have the final edit, I always render everything through a program called ntscQT to give it more consistency.
Secondly, I want to make it very clear that up until these videos were shot and put together, I had little to no fucking experience being a Director, Writer, or Producer, and for that, I am insanely proud of what we managed to put together. I am also fortunate enough to have the most beautiful, talented, and patient (that one's important) film producer for a partner,
@august_spotting , by my side to prevent me looking too clueless or having any kind of mental breakdown.
The main inspiration for the Behind the Music promo was 1980s public access TV - the kind that would air on small local stations at 4am;. There was something very surreal and authentic about them, and I was obsessed with the dryness and little-to-no budget aesthetic they gave off.
The CD promo inspiration was a lot more obvious; it pulled from a nostalgic love of over the top 90s toy commercials I grew up with.
CD promo voiceover was done entirely by
@mrs.mundayne AKA Juno in one afternoon, and we wrote the music track underneath it in a couple of hours 💖
