Hi fine Should have done this a month ago but here we are at the tail end of this EU/UK tour to “officially”announce that I was on tour with @the_huile_mccoy hehe I will perform my last set tonight at the @sfinksmixed festival and I share the stage with an EA mbogi @catu_diosis @ninaogot @sitiandtheband + @_liboi_ @maijameehameow & Rashid. To everyone who has hosted us, booked us to perform, given us a platform to speak, thank you so very much 🧡 Aside from all the gratitude and love I feel for the support and love I have received in this chapter, I have struggled to feel present on this tour. My mind has been pre-occupied with the ongoing struggle my people are currently deeply involved in as they call for various changes in our country. There are calls for accountability and transparency within our governance, respect for human life, an end to police brutality, an end to the murder of our people, an end to corruption, better living conditions and much more. Observing this struggle, and many others like it go on and on, as I move around, and work and entertain the peoples from some of our former colonial powers, I cannot help but consider the real impacts that neo colonialism is having within our current struggles today. Did a quick ‘what is neo-colonialism’ search on the interwebs. Didn’t go super deep into it this time, but looking forward to prodding further - I’m supposed to be set prepping hehe Canva came through for this quick tour poster, but it got me inspired to put together these small poster-like posts, the way @red_maat does! This is in a bid to continue to educate myself on what is going on in the world, understand how everything is connected, to share what I find (most of which is readily available online) and to join in with those who seek to build stronger foundations for our collective freedoms, sustain those freedoms and guard our beautiful lives to come. Praying for the safety of all those involved in this struggle and looking forward to being back in Nairobae 🌸🧡

Singeli Movement: Greed for speed, directed by @jan_moss (Full trailer on YouTube) Singeli Movement: Greed for speed will be screening tonight at 7pm EAT at @unseen.nairobi Todays program is a special collaboration between @unseen.nairobi @tangazamagazine and @passpass__ In addition to picking Jan’s brain about the film and his decision to come all the way to Tanzania to highlight this movement, we will be exploring the threads that tie various global underground music movements with socialist ideals, cultural resistance and preservation and more with @themist.ke co-founder DJ, producer and community organizer @maybedjraph . After the chat, we dance! If you’ve been curious to hear more Singeli and other bubbling sounds from the underground in Nairobi, @lilywhite_sk has got you covered tonight :) Karibuni 🙏🏾 —— Some random talking points that will be synthesized into coherent convo later on… Career skepticism ending once money starts coming in Associated with hooligans Ujamaa “Familyhood” Ambitions of stardom in artists competitiveness of capitalist acceleration “As he saw that other countries are not interested in this music, he turned to typically Tanzanian music.” Thieves of development Tatizo pesa From the poorest stratas of society Advancements in tech + info in the digital age (DSLRs, cellphones, music prod software) ability to control your own narrative- there is power in that
