A big thank you to @gastonnestares and his team, who shod more than 70 horses and followed the race across every checkpoint. Always ready to step in, to fix, replace, or adjust a shoe, they played a key role in keeping the horses moving throughout the race. Pass of Tears. March 2027. At each checkpoint, horses are assessed before continuing. These moments ensure recovery and good condition, with riders and vets working closely together. Horsemanship is measured here. Pass of Tears 2027. March 4. Sign up on website. #PassofTears #Patagonia #EnduranceHorseRace

Stories for the race: The gaucho spirit A big thank you to @soyelgauchoo.ok for bringing 11 horses from the region of Buenos Aires, Pinamar and taking part in this first edition. Leo also received the friendly, non official ā€œGaucho Awardā€, a nod to his simplicity and way of showing up with very little, in the purest spirit of the race. Along the way, he supported many riders, at one point even breaking his navigation instruments while helping a participant out of a bog. After that, he joined the South African team and finished the race alongside them. He also showed incredible horsemanship when, after his horse lost both back shoes at Puesto de Comisión, he let it move freely and continued on foot for around 30 kilometers across the plateau of death until reaching checkpoint 6. šŸ“ø @valentinedreyfus #PassOfTears #Patagonia #StoriesFromTheRace

Self-reliance is one of the pillars of the race. Each rider arrives prepared, carries what they need, and moves through the land with their horses, making decisions along the way. A framework is set. Within it, responsibility stays in your hands. Pass of Tears. March 2027. Sign up on website. #PassOfTears #Patagonia

One month ago today I was sitting on a horse named Ceferino waiting for the sound of a shotgun to go off and the race to begin. Experiencing a new country and continent from the back of a horse is an immersive experience and I can’t think of a more intimate way to travel through Patagonia in particular. The @passoftears was my first ever competition or race, and I won’t lie that I found that dynamic challenging. And the race certainly lived up to its name because I did indeed cry several times šŸ˜…šŸ« . But the dramatic scenery, incredible horses, and steadfast partnership from fellow rider Ozbe made for an unforgettable experience. I traveled in ways that were both familiar to my experiences in the US and also entirely different. I also have a newfound appreciation for the lack of bogs I have to contend with when riding in the states. I loved the challenge of caring for two horses as if they were my own. I loved getting to test skills that I’ve spent thousands of hours developing through experience. I can confidently say that my body has never been so worn down as it was by the end of this race, I gave it everything I had. And while I didn’t win, I am proud of the race I rode and how well my horses finished despite being the smallest and youngest on the podium (we finished 2nd!). Those bay geldings had so much heart and took great care of me. I am so grateful to @san_antonio_y_la_pulperia for sharing his incredible horses with me and fulfilling my dream of riding criollos through the mountains of Patagonia. The course and race @jakotango @negromassuh and @rama.gregorio have put together is one of a kind, and the crew they put together to make it possible had some of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity for this once in a lifetime experience and I promise I will share more soon, I just needed to finally sit down and gather together both my thoughts and all the incredible photos. šŸ“ø credit: @eliseo_miciu slides 1,3,15 @valentinedreyfus slides 2,7,16,19,20 @bauticardini slide 17
