Playing the opening set of a Boiler Room Festival with an empty room to start with was a challenge on its own let alone knowing this was going to be up forever so no playlist, just freestyled it because that’s usually when things go right. This is like an adventure through my whole history, we got jungle, grime, garage, footwork, indie rock and that stuff from Bristol that we used to call “Purple”. Did this one for the bedroom DJs, that old-school raver who lived above the Dominos Pizza I used to work in aka Dave the Rave for teaching me the history and for Lil’ DEEZ who started burning CDs full of 140bpm bass music and going to pirate radio on the other side of London just because it felt right all those years ago. If there is anything that 12 years of playing music has taught me is that success is not linear and milestones hurt you in the long run, what do you look towards when you meet your goals? I'm just super grateful to play music outside my bedroom with other people who want to listen to music they don’t have in their bedrooms. Usually, this great space to announce upcoming dates and radio shows but I’d like to take this space to tell a little story about the day itself - if this caption isn’t too long already. So, on the day of Boiler Room, I was at the location, arrived with my friends, two taxis deep and the whole posse had no rolling papers. So I posted about the broadcast coming up in a short while and I said in the caption “someone please bring rolling papers”. I would like to thank Wes (@cahoots_wes ) aka the realest one on here because homie pulled up and really proved his ability to read. Now, I know some of you couldn’t make it, fair enough, but yo, you better be reading these captions because I leave nice prizes in here. I will never recover from this one! Running up my favorite festival tunes surrounded by my tribe at Lowlands in The Hacienda felt even better the second time around. Shouts going out to all junglists, recovering emos, closeted dubstep fans, part-time ravers, retired moshers and Dutch Lola Young fans for coming to this sermon in the House of Rum & Lime. I feel like I’m no where near ready for club season, as I am having way too much fun in the fields this summer and I’ve got one more festival left this year. I knew it was game time as soon as I found my infamous yellow headphones during my preparation for this set. They are discontinued, so if you ever come across them, make sure you pick them up. I recently saw a video about Skrillex still using Beats by Dre x David Guetta headphones from 2012, and I have to say nothing beats that era of bass-boosted headphones. Last but not least, a major shout out to @dj.weslee and Team Lowlands for putting your faith in me. Oh baby, it’s a wild world, oh no wait, it’s a Wilde Weide, and I just got back from a glorious weekend in the woods with the best crew. Pulling up to the campsite, 100 people deep, ready to play two shows across the weekend - this is exactly how I wanted to kick off the summer. INA and I went into the booth and delivered a masterclass in grime and dubstep, the kind that would make any recovering UKF subscriber smile from ear to ear. Venz liked it so much he sent it over to the good people at 3FM, and it was broadcast on national radio for all to enjoy. We had a killer RRFM stage, killer production with a coach ride there and back, and a killer community that came together to leave Westerpark for the weekend. Shouts out to the RRFMLY for coming together and pulling this one off. But you know me - I love it just like you love it. That’s why you’re here. I’m here ‘cause I love to play. You don’t come, I can’t play. And I love to play. So, on day two of the dance, I pulled up to this bush doof going by the name Hutje Muntje. I didn’t know much going in, except that they were rolling with a WhatsApp group with 127 people and running an unannounced stage. They blew me away with the stage design and showed what a community can put together when given the space. 90 minutes of renegade jungle, punk records, and socialist electronicore. Closed off the night with Mos Def – Umi Says before we disappeared into the most wholesome afters known to man. I’m back in Kraggenburg this weekend for Wildeburg - third year in a row - and this time I’ve got my first daytime slot. I’ll be pushing things forward at The Strand on Saturday from 15:00 to 18:30. I’ve spent about three months prepping for this set already, and I think I’m happy with what I plan to showcase, so come on by. We’re going to get up, so let’s get down. Born in Northampton, raised in the shubeen and now based in Amsterdam, Garnett brings a deeply rooted sound shaped by reggae, dub and dancehall. Echoing past eras within today’s club landscape, channelling the spirit of soundsystem culture into something future-facing. Flying in from Los Angeles straight to the club, Bianca Oblivion joins us fresh off shutting down dances worldwide with razor-sharp selections, unreleased dubplates and an undeniable commitment to making the girls shake ass. The NTS resident doesn’t come to play nice. Joining her is Popolaclab founder Yeimy. Think dembow, think merengue, think cumbia, think salsa, think reggeton, choose life. Gazed into the crystal ball and soaked up the future intel. Back in The Hague to celebrate 5 years of conspiring and conniving with the Future Intel Posse. I’ve broadcast with the collective 7 times now, taken my sound to the club with them in Groningen and played in the fields of Croatia at the best illegal rave I’ve ever been too. They show the true resilient strength of a collective and the power of genuine community, not just the community you profit from, in everything they do. I’m coming back The Hague in July to put on the first Passion DEEZ and friends outside of Amsterdam in 2 years. I’m thinking Sunday, day party, free food, live art and bass explorations.
