EN/ In Medusa, the American author Sylvia Plath offers a blurred and haunting vision of this mythological figure in what remains one of her most mysterious and widely discussed poems. We invited Hélène Frappat, Astrid Haerens and Ayşegül Savaş to compose a response to this poem that would also offer a personal and contemporary vision of the myth. A moving evening of literary creation with La Monnaie, presented by Nicky Aerts. 🐍 FR/ Dans Medusa, l’autrice américaine Sylvia Plath convoque la figure de Méduse dans ce qui reste l’un de ses poèmes les plus mystérieux et les plus commentés. Nous avons proposé à Hélène Frappat, Astrid Haerens et Ayşegül Savaş d’écrire une réponse à ce poème, qui serait aussi une vision personnelle et contemporaine du mythe. EN/ Last week, we welcomed Swedish writer Mattias Timander as our writer-in-residence for the month of May. During his stay at Passa Porta, Timander is working on a new novel exploring storytelling, nature, and the quiet rhythms of small-town life. We’re already looking forward to discovering what he is creating. 🇸🇪 FR/ La semaine dernière, nous avons accueilli l’écrivain suédois Mattias Timander comme résident pour le mois de mai. Durant son séjour à Passa Porta, Timander travaille sur un nouveau roman qui explore les récits, la nature et le rythme paisible de la vie dans une petite ville. Op 29 april kwam Oscar van den Boogaard naar Brussel om te vertellen over zijn nieuwe boek De Zes: Het Onvertelde Verhaal Van De Zes Van Antwerpen. Samen met Sonja Noël, oprichter van STIJL in de Dansaertstraat, ging hij in op de Zes, hun stijl en hun invloed op de modewereld. Veerle Windels leidde het gesprek en samen benadrukten ze het belang van Brussel in de artistieke ontwikkeling van de Zes. Details from previous post: OPEN CALL: On the last weekend of June 2026, we (noï, Roya, and Kate) will host a multi-lingual gathering in Brussels, centred around poetic performance and wanting to live. We have a small budget* with which to pay four others to offer something in the realm of poetry and performance. We do not need these offerings to be finished pieces, but we would like to imagine ourselves more attached to life after experiencing them/feel that the merciless format we find ourselves in has been slightly altered. Offerings could take a ceremonial form, or be silent, disgusting, erotic, grieving, singing, clowning, involve reading, involve a request of others present, involve something else. The offering should take around 2 hours, but let us know what your ideal timings would be. Part of our criteria for choosing will be linguistic diversity, play with translation, and openness to misunderstanding. The deadline is the 2nd May.
