A 4,000 m² facade installation translating the gestures of preparing sarmale in grape leaves into a minimalist choreography of hands, reflecting on migration, memory, and the idea of a “portable home.”
The work is currently being installed on the Ringturm building as part of the long-running Ringturm wrapping series, the project brings into focus the cultural context of the Republic of Moldova, where Vienna Insurance Group is active.
For Pavel Brăila, sarmale are closely tied to experiences of migration and life away from home, their preparation becoming a gesture of reconnection. As he notes, the project carries a subtle message: that belonging, what we pass on, and even happiness are in our own hands.

În acest an Republica Moldova a participat la cea de a 61-a Expoziție Internațională de Artă- La Biennale di Venezia.
🇲🇩 Covoarele tradiționale susținute de drone reprezintă o alegorie și aduce în prim-plan o stare specifică prezentului, în care sunetul devine expresia unei realități aflate în conflict cu viața însăși.
Creatorul acestei idei este @pashuzza și am reușit cu Inteligența Artificială să creem o imagine a covorului zburător direct în platoul @radio.noroc 👍🏻
This is the sound of our times: an existence at war with life, fractured by greed and strained across both human and more-than-human worlds. Astray from any moral compass, our senses and sensibilities have worn thin, and with them, our capacity to dream and imagine alternative modes of living. Just as the postponement of violence once gave rise to the tales of the Arabian Nights—a constellation of stories told by Scheherazade to her mistrustful husband, unfolding as an ever-deferred horizon—Pavel Brăila’s exhibition returns to these folktales, not to retell them, but to keep them open, to resist their ending, and to ask what might follow in our present condition: a sequel still in the making, inviting collective engagement. On this Thousand and Second Night, storytelling re-emerges as a vital act, generating narratives that remain unfinished, that invite participation, and that insist on the possibility of another outcome.

‘On the Thousand and Second Night’ by Pavel Brăila, curated by Adelina Luft is now open to the public at @labiennale
Inside the Chapel of Santa Veneranda, part of the Chiesa dei Santi Geremia e Lucia, an assemblage of carpets unfolds, woven from the shared memory of many lands, suspended in the air by the persistent force of drone propellers, as if lifted against gravity. Like a murmur of instruments adjusting pitch, their synchronised hymn disrupts the chapel’s sacred stillness—a ceremony in dissonance. The mirage soon falters, as the sound resolves into something all too familiar: the distant acoustics of surveillance, of terror, of war.
From the position of representing the Moldova Pavilion, the exhibition speaks of the necessity to act from a place of empathy and solidarity, acknowledging entangled histories and shared struggles. Pavel Brăila’s proposal to reorientate our vision towards flight and fantasia is neither refuge nor escape from the wars unfolding on a global scale, but a way of revealing the power of imagining other possible exits and of insisting that alternatives still exist. In a world saturated with noise and dissonance, ‘On the Thousand and Second Night’ emerges as a quiet yet persistent gesture, which whispers a peace yet to come.

Brigada “Covoraş”, Moldova Pavilion 2026 - La Biennale di Venezia se întoarce acasă cu sufletul plin de emoții, recunoștință și sentimentul unei misiuni împlinite. 🇲🇩
A fost o experiență intensă, plină de provocări, oameni extraordinari și momente care ne vor inspira încǎ mult timp. Am reprezentat Moldova cu mândrie, pasiune și dedicare, iar acum revenim acasă mai motivați ca niciodată.
Mulțumim tuturor celor care au fost alături de noi și au făcut parte din această călătorie. Iar pentru noi… acesta este doar începutul. Suntem gata pentru noi proiecte, noi provocări și noi realizări! 🚀
Arta nu vorbește.
Și tocmai de asta o auzim atât de bine.
Uneori, o lucrare a unui artist poate spune despre pace și despre neam mai mult decât o mie de discursuri corecte.
Pentru că arta nu știe să mintă frumos.
Noi am învățat să explicăm totul. Dar transformarea nu se întâmplă atunci când explici.
Omul se schimbă atunci, când ceva îl atinge atât de adânc, încât nu mai poate rămâne același.
Asta face arta.
Și atunci artiștii devin mai importanți decât credem.
Poate salvarea unei societăți nu începe din marile decizii.
Poate începe dintr-o emoție adevărată?
Dintr-o sală, care tace ascultând muzică.
Dintr-un om care privește o lucrare și, pentru câteva secunde, își amintește că are identitate și suflet.
Felicitări nouă tuturor, ca avem pavilionul nostru la Biennale Arte 2026 @moldovapavilion , că am reușit să ne prezentăm nu doar frumos, ci excelent prin lucrarea artistului nostru Pavel Brăila. @pashuzza
