Which script are you currently learning? This is an ongoing battle for me. I keep working on my copperplate and it is mainly what you see. What you don’t see is what else I am working on. Manuscript Illumination, both the gilding and painting, featured heavily in my training and I still do a lot of this. I do a tonne of research on historical scripts and there are some really crazy ones I have been delving into. My main focus right now is on the range of PAScribe Products. I don’t think people realise how tricky developing products can be. It takes years to get it right. The product is one thing and the packaging is another matter entirely. The minuscules are written at 8mm. This is my ink so I know what it can do but am still stunned by the hairlines. As I continue with thinking about why I am still so deeply connected to calligraphy, I need to start with how I first got connected to it. Many of you have heard me talk about drawing letters as a kid but there is a lot more to that story. Not being able to afford nibs meant picking up turkey vulture feathers on the beach and making paper and inks. That helped me to connect to material culture. I would love to hear what your reasons are. Think hard about it as these answered will help you decide on the direction of your practice.
