Thereβs something truly special about seeing children volunteer at parkrun. π From cheering walkers and runners on, to handing out tokens, helping with set-up, or simply offering a smile, young volunteers bring energy, joy, and a wonderful sense of community to every event.
Volunteering helps children build confidence, learn responsibility, develop teamwork skills, and discover the value of gifting their time. It also teaches them that being part of something bigger than themselves can be fun and rewarding.
And why stop there? Volunteering as a family is a beautiful way to spend time together while making a difference. Parents, grandparents, and children can share the experience side by side, creating memories, strengthening bonds, and showing that community spirit starts at home. β€οΈ
So next parkrun day, why not swap the sidelines for a volunteer role together? You may be surprised at just how rewarding it feels.

π Happy World Earth Day!
Every Saturday morning, something quietly remarkable happens. Thousands of people lace up their shoes, step outside, and choose to move through the world on foot, through parks, along river paths, past trees and open skies and morning mist.
We don't always stop to name it, but parkrun has always been as much about the earth beneath our feet as the kilometres we cover. The parks that hold our courses are living, breathing spaces, they clean our air, steady our minds, and give our communities somewhere to gather, week after week.
Today, on World Earth Day, we're pausing to say thank you. To the green spaces that welcome us every Saturday. To the volunteers who care for them. To every participant who picks up litter on their way around, who notices the birds, who brings their kids and lets them feel what it means to belong somewhere outside.
The earth gives us so much. π
