Last week, we joined the Evergreen Conference in Toronto — rich conversations, keynotes, site visits and workshops all centred on the theme "Cities Bursting with Life." We led a walkshop on equity in nature connection, digging into access, inclusion, and barriers that keep people from connecting with parks and ravines. Our Executive Director, Erika Nikolai, moderated a panel on loneliness in cities and the potential of community placemaking to foster real social connection and belonging. Thanks to @evergreencanada for bringing so many dedicated organizations and people under one roof. #CityParks #Placemaking #SocialConnection #UrbanParks

What does it actually take to build a park people actually want to use? Our senior director Natalie Brown spoke with West End Phoenix and reflects on over a decade of work championing community-led parks in Canada — and the challenges that have shaped it. A conversation about trust, access, climate resilience, and what's at stake when funding falls short. 👉 Swipe to read the article. 📸 Arts in the Parks, Toronto. #torontoparks #cityparks #publicspaces

_______ In Montreal, underused and vacant spaces are about to be reimagined. Meet the 2026 Montreal Urban Parks Champions — dedicated residents envisioning new uses for neglected spaces: a traffic island in a residential neighbourhood, a planting strip alongside a parking lot, and concrete surfaces adjacent to a building receiving people. Their mission: bring life back where it's missing, boost biodiversity, and make their neighbourhoods more welcoming and resilient. 👉 Swipe to discover the sites they want to transform and their vision. @ecologieurbaine #ParcsUrbains #ParcsMontréal #NatureEnVille #VerdissementUrbain

Last weekend, we joined Jane’s Walks in several cities, where we walked, listened and learned alongside neighbours. From skateboarding through downtown Toronto to learning about urban wetlands at Biidaasige Park and exchanging ideas in Montréal’s Parc-Extension neighbourhood, each walk offered a new way to experience the city. Did you join a Jane’s Walk this year? Tell us about it in the comments.

68% of playgrounds in Canada have no shade in their main play areas — and as summers get hotter, that's a growing public health concern. Shade (from tree canopies or man-made shade structures) and natural playground materials go a long way to making playgrounds safe and enjoyable for kids all year-round. Our Senior Director, Natalie Brown, was interviewed by the Toronto Star about the Canadian Partnership for Children’s Health and Environment (CPCHE)'s new national campaign calling for greener, healthier play spaces. 👉 Swipe to read the article. 📸 Biidaasige Park, Toronto. #CityParks #TreeCanopy #OutdoorPlay #BeatTheHeat

InTO the Ravines Champions reflect on what they learned through the program, from training sessions to hosting their own events. After exploring the social and ecological value of ravines and topics like event planning, equity, climate resilience, and Indigenous history and perspectives, they organized activities in Toronto’s ravines to engage more people in these unique natural spaces and encourage them to care for them. 👉 Swipe to hear what they took away from the experience. ___________ The deadline for the InTO the Ravines Champions program is fast approaching. We’re looking for 20 people to join upcoming training sessions and gain the skills to plan their own ravine event. Apply by April 30, 2026 (the link is in our bio). 📸 Christen & Felix's event, Glen Stewart Ravine, Toronto. @torontopfr @cityofto #ITRChampions #InTOtheRavines #Toronto #Parks

Asha and Kay from our Toronto team attended Earth Day at Downsview Park yesterday. 🦋 They had a wonderful time taking part in various activities, including helping move mulch to prepare the Monarch Mound site as part of efforts to support monarch butterflies, and connecting with like-minded organizations and dedicated nature enthusiasts. @parcdownsviewpark #earthday #Torontoparks #urbanparks

“I did not know Toronto had ravines with creeks. It reminds me of my village back home, so I will go back again now that I know.” — InTO the Ravines event participant. Last year, 20 Champions from our InTO the Ravines program welcomed people into Toronto’s ravines—many for the very first time. With training and support, they hosted events that invited people to experience these spaces in their own way: guided walks exploring ravine history and use, Indigenous ceremonies with Elders, painting, sketching and journaling sessions, and nature photo scavenger hunts. 👉 Swipe to see some highlights of their events. These events help build a deeper connection with the ravine's natural environment and break barriers to accessing them, so people feel comfortable returning on their own. 📸 Photo 1: Josh & Marion, Taylor Creek | 2: Marilyn & Darlene, Garrison Creek | 3: Teresa, Cedarvale Ravine | 4&5: Vera, Highland Creek | 6: Hannah & Mary Ann, Don Valley | 7: Aragsan & Naomi, Don Valley | 7: Danielle & Christopher, Taylor Creek. ___________ The InTO the Ravines Champions program is still open.
