I exist because my family was forced from Iran and brave enough to rebuild their lives from nothing. with everything they endured, I am here.
my dad was a professional soccer player in Iran — until the Islamic Revolution changed everything. The league was disrupted, athletes’ careers were cut short, and my parents had to leave their home, their dreams, and their life behind to give me and my brother a chance at freedom. since then they put their love and creativity into food and persian cuisine, opened a couple restaurants, which then started our catering business.
today the 28th, is a historic day of freedom — but it also reminds me of how much was taken from the past 47 years. I was 16 when I was arrested by the morality police in Iran for my hijab being “too loose,” and that moment shaped me forever. It was about being told that my existence, my hair, my autonomy were threats. It made me realize how insanely privileged I am to be in america and wear my hair out.
islam is the most beautiful religion, it should never under any circumstance had been forced on our people.
we spent all day dancing in the streets and crying tears of joy on the phone with my family. after 2 of the hardest months of my life, not being able to contact my family for 10 days at a point and years of protesting, praying for a change-
today is finally the most hopeful ive ever been. i’ll never stop speaking up for my people. #prayforiran 🌹#persianprincess 4LiFESKII
