We talk about “resilience” in Paralympic sports… but we don’t always get the full story. 📝 It’s not just about disability. It’s about everything it takes to get there: the side jobs, the early mornings, the sacrifices behind the scenes. Kate Brim is part of a tier of athletes whose journeys are just as complex, demanding, and elite as any other. 🥇 The difference? We don’t always talk about them that way. 🎙 Athlete, Actually Ep. 4 with Kate Brim Presented by @dna.vibe and @sportcertified powered by @iherb Hosted by @elizabethmontavon

Since I hosted my Throw Like A Girl clinic back in November, so many of you have asked me more about the event itself but also the grant that made it happen. Throw Like A Girl would not have been possible without the support I received from the Gainbridge Assists Powered by Parity Grant. If you or someone you know is also championing girls in sport, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE to apply for the 2026 grant. Applications are open now and close on July 10th. Don’t miss your opportunity to receive $5,000 to help change the lives of girls in your community. You can find the link for the application in my bio or shoot me a DM and I’ll send it to your inbox! #GainbridgeAssists

They told her 5–7 years left to live. At 27 years old. After everything she had already been through, including a spinal cord injury, Kate Brim was faced with a reality she didn’t expect. 💭 And still, her focus didn’t change. Get back on the bike. Do what she loves. Live fully with what she has. Because for Paralympic gold and bronze medalist and a four-time world champion Kate, hand cycling isn’t just a sport; it’s how she shows up for herself, and for everyone watching what’s possible. 🥇 This is definitely the part of the story you don’t see. 🎙 Athlete, Actually Ep. 4 with Kate Brim Presented by @dna.vibe and @sportcertified powered by @iherb Hosted by @elizabethmontavon

She tried everything. In the years after her injury, Kate Brim didn’t know exactly what her path would look like, only that she wasn’t done moving. Then she found hand cycling. Not just a sport… but freedom. Independence. A way to feel like herself again. And maybe most importantly: a community that showed her what was still possible. That path led her to become a Paralympic gold and bronze medalist and a four-time world champion. 🥇🌎 🎙 Athlete, Actually Ep. 4 with Kate Brim Presented by @dna.vibe and @sportcertified powered by @iherb

“I couldn’t even be excited… I didn’t have a bike.” 😳 That was Kate Brim’s first thought after making the Paralympic roster. 🇺🇸 Not celebration. Not relief. Logistics. Because sometimes the biggest moments come with realities no one sees. From navigating that moment… to becoming a Paralympic gold and bronze medalist and a four-time world champion, Kate’s story is everything that happens before the podium. 🥇 🎙 Athlete, Actually Ep. 4 with Kate Brim Presented by @dna.vibe and @sportcertified powered by @iherb Hosted by @elizabethmontavon

Part 6 of An Athlete’s Pregnancy is here! In this entry, the series turns to birth: the expectations, the fear, the pain, and the moments of joy that can exist alongside all of it. 👩‍🍼 After years of elite sport and pushing through physical discomfort, Paralympian and Parity writer Skyler Espinoza thought she understood what it meant to handle pain, until labor asked something completely different of her. This piece explores control, surrender, birth plans, and the pressure women feel to “do it right” during one of the most unpredictable experiences of their lives. Read Part 6 at the 🔗 in bio. An Athlete’s Pregnancy is a personal multi-part series chronicling one athlete’s experience navigating pregnancy, birth, and motherhood after an elite sports career.

She was 9 years old when she first said it out loud: “I want to play in the Olympics one day.” A few years later, softball was removed from the Games. 💔 So the dream had to change. Nicole Mendes kept going - through college at @uofoklahoma , through new goals, through building a career in the sport… even when the Olympic path wasn’t there. And when softball was added back in 2020? She was ready. 🥎 From getting autographs as a kid… to representing Team Mexico on the Olympic stage, this is what it looks like when a dream evolves, but never really goes away. 🎙 Athlete, Actually Ep. 3 with Nicole Mendes Presented by @dna.vibe and @sportcertified powered by @iherb Hosted by @elizabethmontavon #AthleteActually #WomensSportsPodcast
