Just a few images from today’s magnificent Songbird Festival: A Women's Experience at Maryland Hall. I was having such a good time I didn’t use my camera as much as I usually would. Of course, it was impossible for me to take pics of myself and the amazing Burnsie during our set—will have to hope that friends got a few of us I can share later. It was pure joy to get to perform Callie’s gorgeous songs with her! And thanks to Bart Reese, Sean Jackson, and Glen for taking care of us on the Tree Stage!
What a beautiful experience the whole day was. Huge kudos to Meg Murray, Laura Brino, and all the volunteers who made this event happen, the community is so much richer for it!
I ran into so many wonderful people, it’s impossible to name them all so here are just a few: Danah Denice, Davonne D'Neil, Leslie Webber, Steve Cyphers, Jeremy OldHead, Jill Janota Davolio, Bryan Lee, Elizabeth Melvin, Cindy Dawson, Shelby Hall, Angie Miller, Daniel Alvarez, Madisun Bailey, Cristi Bailey, Christina Wilharm, Bridgett Rheam, Carly Winter, Darren Burns, Gary Wright, and the list goes on…
If you missed this year’s festival, make plans now to be at next year’s as each one just keeps getting better and better!
This pic from last week’s Strathmore performance includes my uber talented friends Meg Murray, Laura Brino, and Madisun Bailey (this was from Laura’s show, by the way). This Sunday all three, plus tons more incredible performers, will be sharing their songs and loving spirits at the annual Songbird Festival: A Women's Experience at Maryland Hall in Annapolis. The festival runs from 10 am - 4 pm and has food trucks, arts & crafts vendors, community resources, and more—plus multiple stages of gorgeous music throughout the day. Best of all, it’s got the 3 Fs: family-friendly and free! And I’ll be performing there with my incredible friend, Burnsie!
Make plans to come on down for a great day of music, community, and fun!
This is a photo of me and my friend, the incredible Burnsie, just a couple months ago at my monthly residency at 49 West Coffeehouse, Winebar & Gallery.
I’m over the moon to report that I’ll be backing up Burnsie this Sunday at 1:20 pm on the Tree Stage at the Songbird Festival: A Women's Experience at Maryland Hall in Annapolis. We’ll be performing songs she has written, both old and new, including three from her upcoming EP (coming this June!). Her songs are beautiful as are both her voice and spirit. You should definitely make plans to come see us! (And, guess what, the festival is free and family-friendly!).
But don’t just come for us, there are a ton of incredible women and non-binary performers on the bill, with multiple stages of music (including some full band performances this year) plus food and arts vendors, and lots of community resources. What more could you ask for? The festival runs from 10 am - 4 pm. Hope to see you there!
A few pics from Matthew Tebo and my trip to see the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band at Hollywood Casino in Charles Town, WV. It was great to catch up with our friends Joe Krown, Doug Woolverton, and Shari Puorto—and to see Joe and Doug rip it up with Kenny and his red hot band, driven by former-Stevie Ray drummer Chris ‘Whipper’ Layton who still sounds great! Joe gave me a copy of his new CD, Qualified, which is amazing—check it out!
A just-before-showtime view from last night’s performance of Step by Step: The Ruby Bridges Suite at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Congregation with Cedar Lane’s fantastic choir (augmented by members of the DC Labor Chorus) featuring two enormously talented soloists—Rachel Reid and Jenny Lynn Swindler—and a top-notch band including Chris Mauro, Jasmin Lee, and more, all under the musical direction of Michael Holmes. It’s a beautiful and challenging piece of music about an important part of our history and the brave little girl at the center of it all, whose courage in the face of hate has inspired generations. Grateful to have been a part of bringing this piece to life.
Super fun evening with this terrifically talented group of folks playing at the Strathmore, bringing the incredible songs of Laura Brino to the people! And Laura even won a prize for her good work to boot!
Awesome time the other night with my brother-from-another-mother Philip Bucci catching the incredible Richard Bona at Blues Alley! What an incredible player with a truly musical approach that grooves hard and yet is sweet in all the right ways. Catch him if you can and thank me later!
