Always happiest painting my own neighborhood and getting to design Christina’s storefront around her colors and logo was right up my alley. Walking away with chunky Stabilos and finally learning to knit next month is just icing on the cake.
Hand-drawn hand-painted titles for the Mabel Dwight show at @whitneymuseum , built to mimic her angles and curves, the texture of litho crayon and printed stone. I think I saw half of a page of her work studying printmaking at Cooper and it’s High Time more people had more access to her work. She’s hysterical and tender and critical and compassionate, an Ur-New Yorker. The show is up now, go visit her. Thank you to @faithkaufman and @dannadel and the whole team at the Whitney, an honor to be able to serve her work.
Queer-coding the impeccable brick-and-mortar that is @athenakekesnyc was one of my favorite projects of last year. Almost all hand-drawn/hand-painted patterns, with the last-minute added bonus of making SPORTS suggest being filled with a fruity drink. If you’re thirsty n into women’s sports or people into women’s sports, you’d be well-served to join the fray.
Dream address for an ex(ish)-letterpress man extrapolated from a sample I’ve been holding in my head for a very long time. Added fun of it now living on the same block the drummer in my high-school band used to. Booking mid-November on; tell me something about past you and let me draw an address (or anything) for them.
Thank you to @mouseceramicstudio for listening to me when I said just-let-me-make-the-most-crucial-information-very-big-and-we-can-go-from-there. Few better situations within work than clients who actually trust you, and now you can see it coming from six blocks down Cortelyou. I grew up in Ditmas so added bonus: here’s some of my favorite extant signs from when I was a kid. If anyone knows if that painted forklift on a blank white field on Church-ish/Coney Island is still there, please let me know, I couldn’t find her.
I’ve painted @sitandwondercafe across owners, across budgets and finally got the chance at the full-scale hand-drawn storefront they’ve deserved. Being able to play with warring cast shadows n a nice optometry rip only works with a name like theirs and I confess I do love some serious play. Thank you to Johnny and Mitro and EJ and the block and also to chicory in the iced coffee and special sauce on the bec. More to come.
All I need in this life of sin is people who desire a generic but very tenderly handled sign that looks like it could’ve been there for 80 years. No straight lines, no hard angles, like ink spread into paper but enamel on glass. More to come for June July August in Accord. I hope you find some water to be in and of today.
Never posted one of my favorite storefronts I had the honor of painting, the second now-retired @bittersweetcoffeebk on Hall. The blade now hangs in their flagship on DeKalb and the storefront hangs in a collective mind’s eye. Always grateful for jobs that desire old school painting and for clients as lovely and attuned to their community as Gemma and Lucien.
We opened our 2nd Minus Moonshine nonalcoholic bottle shop, at 257 Driggs in Greenpoint, on February 7. We’re finally getting our windows painted! It’s all coming together… stop by for tastings this weekend from @drinkooso and @drinkparch 🤩

1099s are coming in and remembered this suite of canvas backdrops (and logo design) @showup_team commissioned for their first annual Action Summit in Nashville earlier this year. Old friend from my Luaka Bop days @thismathall founded ShowUp to make it easier for musicians to collectivize and fundraise for local organizations and give them some insulation from repercussions for doing so. All dry-brush acrylic and latex on canvas w some rips and reinventions of WPA campaigns from the 40s, sewn to ensure they can get rolled up and marched out again for future endeavors. These pieces are built for the mutable long haul, a shape we could all be emulating these days 💕💕
Spent the last brick week 30 ft in the air with @dominickmango painting this lil 360 sq ft guy next to the Major Deegan. Got to channel the rare Doc Guthrie layout I was trained on and he was in my head chopping it up for alot of it. All cut-in lettering, courtesy of an amenable @houseindustries face, but for their logo I tweaked to make it more suitable for signage. Deep thanks to @karimwma for sending Stanley Ruth my way and @mxdoodledaytime for talking thru the logistics of big patterns up high on a rainy week ❤️
