I spent the last month or so in Hong Kong and picked up some insight into its cultural scene. There's a sense of transition in the air after the past few years of turbulence but it's hopeful. NGL it still has its problems, but I'm impressed by the sense of tenacity and perseverance. It's still a fair distance from reclaiming the cultural clout of its 90s heyday. Rather, however, than solely feeling nostalgic, there's a palpable collective desire to push into something new from a youth who never lived the glory years. I saw some Reddit comments talking about whether Hong Kong could become the new Dubai. Personally I think it's a little too good/soulful for that and with what I've seen, I'm optimistic it can avoid this fate.
