This World Pangolin Day, I find myself reflecting on the many people whose quiet, consistent efforts help protect pangolins. Field assistants who know the forest better than anyone, veterinarians and researchers who give their time and care, and volunteers who step forward simply because they care about these animals.
I am especially grateful to the field assistants, researchers, volunteers, and
@maca.cgonzalez , who worked alongside me as the project veterinarian over the past three years, as well as the wider team at
@danaugirang , who have walked alongside us through forests, rivers, and long nights. Their dedication, experience, and patience are at the heart of this work.
I am also deeply thankful to
@elisapanjang , founder of
@pangolinaware , whose early commitment to pangolin conservation and community engagement helped create the foundation that made my own research possible. Her work opened pathways that many of us are able to continue today.
Pangolins remain among the most threatened mammals in the world, and their survival depends not only on protection, but on people who are willing to understand them, to care for them, and to act.
Over time, I have come to realise that being able to work with pangolins, and with people who carry conservation in their hearts is not something to take for granted. It is a privilege, and also a responsibility. One that humbles me, and one that I am quietly proud to carry forward.
As a Pangolin Guardian, I will continue to learn, to contribute, and to stand alongside those working to protect them. Because the future of pangolins does not depend on one person, but on the quiet persistence of many, and it is through these collective efforts that they will continue to remain part of our forests.
