Soft launching Saturday school at the shop!!!
Inspired by the weekend language schools many of us attended growing up, Saturday School is a free series of creative workshops across 2026 — a communal learning space to remember the wholeness of who we are and practice what keeps us rooted, nourished and connected to each other across oceans and these FAKE borders.
For our first workshop we want to invite you into the magic of Bánh Tét Making ✨
Guided by our ancestral wisdom, @jazzclub.vn , @pandandreaming n I will be showing you how to make this v special lunar new years dish as we continue to ground ourselves into the year of the fire horse.
Every year my family and I spend 48 hours prepping, wrapping and cooking Bánh Tét as an offering to our ancestors and our community, For generations, Bánh Tét is how my lineage showed care to eachother. My grandparents used to spend days wrapping, boiling and drying so that they can gift their family and neighbours. These past few years, I have had the honour to learn and archive this recipe from my Mum and we can’t wait to pass on this recipe to you 💌
Join us on the 4th April for a wholesome day where we will share our family recipes, learn the art of banana leaf wrapping and eat a home cooked meal together. There will be plenty of time to marinate, rest together n sing karaoke 🥹
Leaf wrapping is a living archive of ancestral knowledge, preserving practices of communal care, togetherness across generations and it is an honour to share this with our community 🫶🏼

@pandandreaming n I have heard your cries for another cooking workshop n we are so excited to announce that we will be hosting a vietnamese vegan cooking class at the end of this month 🌱 We will share all the Viet aunty secrets we have learnt n documented over the years!!!
Come join us on the last day of spring for an abundantly nourishing afternoon of cooking, connection and shared stories. Together, we’ll prepare some of our favourite vegan Vietnamese homestyle dishes, then gather around the dinner table for a family-style meal ending with a sweet treat.
Vietnamese homestyle family meals (Cơm Nhà) embody the ancestral care and love of collectively sharing a bountiful seasonal array of dishes and stories together with friends and family. Vegan (Chay) Vietnamese cooking in particular carries a deep connection to Vietnamese Buddhist history and herbal plant wisdom as part of every day medicine.
Cơm Nhà is an abundant spread of communally shared dishes that typically includes Cơm (rice), Món Mặn (main protein), Rau (fresh vegetables), Canh (soup), Chè (sweet soup) and other small accompanying dishes. It’s the meal @pandandreaming n I always turn back to when we are feeling burnt out and in need of care n nourishment 🥹
Inspired by our recent trip home to the motherland, we will be learning how to cook:
* Lá Lốt và Măng Xào (Betel Leaf and Bamboo Stir-fry)
* Đậu Hũ Chiên Sốt Me Chua Ngọt (Fried Tofu in Sweet and Sour Tamarind Sauce)
* Canh Bầu Nấu Nấm (Gourd and Mushroom Soup)
* Thịt Kho Chay (Mock Braised Pork Belly)
* Nấm Chiên Giòn (Fried Mushroom Calamari)
* Chè Trôi Nước (Glutinous Rice Dumplings in Ginger Syrup)
Unfortunately, due to the nature of this workshop, we’re unable to accommodate additional dietary requirements. All dishes are gluten free except the vegan pork!!
Come join us and be immersed in ancestral recipes and stories of communal care and reciprocity with new and old friends. We are so excited to welcome you into our second home n share a meal with you!

For our final Creative Bereavement Session of 2025, we are collaborating with @pandandreaming and the Positive Living Centre to offer an altar making workshop for all LGBTIQA+ people who have experienced a stigmatised loss, including to suicide or HIV related causes.
Altar making has long been a powerful tool for people and communities to hold, grow, and honour connection. Creating and caring for an altar, especially in relation to a loss that carries stigma, can be a precious and meaningful way to nurture ongoing bonds with our loved ones.
Co-facilitated by Hiếu Phùng and Switchboard’s Bereavement Group Facilitator June B, this workshop will invite participants to collectively build an altar and take part in other creative activities, including writing and collage, to make an object for their personal altar at home.
Assembling Altars Creative Bereavement Session
Saturday 06 December

Hiiiiiii I can already feel the depression thaw away in this weather so I decided to bring back one of my fav summer classics tomorrow night!! (17/10) ✨
I feel like cooking bò chiên bơ (beef stir fried in butter) vermicelli but I haven’t decided how I’m gonna plate up yet - either in a bowl or a diy roll your own rice paper rolls! Come and find out haha
Tender beef is fried with butter (sorry bring your lacteez) and served with silky noodles, pickled carrots, herbs, salad, peanuts, nước mắm and spring rolls that mum rolled ✨
Some of my earliest food memories was sitting around the dinner table with my family n cooking butter beef together on a camping gas stove. We let the butter melt then add beef and onion and watched it sizzle 🥹 Mum would put some cooked beef in each of our bowls - then we would add vermicelli, herbs and fish sauce and gulp it down 😭😭
It will be an honour to share this memory and dish with you tomorrow with mum helping in the kitchen too 🥰
Of course @pandandreaming will also be playing dessert shop 🫶🏼
Eat in or takeaway available. We are a very small team in the kitchen so we appreciate ur love and patience 💓
Noodles: $15 -$35 sliding scale with options to pay on card or pay id.
Dessert: $15 so Hiếu can keep funding their himbo dreams ✨
No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you have extra $ and would like to pay it forward for others, u can pay id us at 0450286224 with ‘noodle night’ in the notes.
Will be cooking a vegan n beef. Vegan one can be made gf too 🥰 we will be using peanuts in the kitchen xx
Air purifiers will be on but if you are sick please stay home! Thank you for helping keep community safe 💕
Walk ins only. it’s gonna be so wholesome but might be busy so come early to avoid disappointment ✨ open from 6.30pm until sold out!
Bring ur hot dates n share with ur friends ❤️
