Some projects stay with you.
The Queen Elizabeth II Garden at The Regent's Park opened last month to mark what would have been Her Majesty's 100th birthday, and we're proud to have played our part in bringing it to life.
A two-acre living memorial in the heart of London. Over 60 tree species. 37,000 perennials. 200,000 bulbs. A space designed to grow and evolve for generations to come.
Projects at this scale don't happen without planning well ahead, and that's exactly where our contract grow service comes into its own. For public realm projects especially, having the right plants grown to specification and ready when the project needs them can make all the difference.
Thank you to Blakedown Landscapes for bringing us in as plant suppliers, and to HTA Design LLP for the vision behind it. The Royal Parks oversee this extraordinary space, and it's in very good hands šæ

Behind the Bark: Met šæ
Meet Met, Palmsteadās Production Controller and one of the people helping keep the nursery moving day to day.
From overseeing stock availability and supporting the potting team, to coordinating between sales and production, Met plays a key role in making sure everything keeps ticking over across the nursery.
No two days are ever the same, and with around 30,000 steps a day, itās a role thatās far more hands-on and technical than many people realise. Metin also plays a big part in training new employees, from plant husbandry all the way through to machinery.
Originally joining Palmstead as a temp during COVID after a career as a chef, horticulture was a completely new world to him. Five and a half years later, heās worked his way up to Production Controller, something he puts down to dedication, teamwork and a genuine passion for the industry.
Outside of work, Metās an avid reader, tabletop gamer and self-confessed nerd.
Favourite plants? Achillea for its fascinating medicinal history, and Forsythia for the burst of spring colour it brings to the nursery š¼

āCanāt see it on the website...does that mean itās not in stock?ā
Not necessarily.
As a nursery growing a large proportion of our plants in-house, this is the time of year when new stock is coming through. Many plants are currently being grown on and will be added to our stock availability over the coming weeks.
So if you canāt see something listed, it doesnāt always mean we donāt have it, it could just be that it needs a little longer.
Keep an eye on our stock updates over the next 6ā8 weeks, or get in touch with our sales team at [email protected] ā weāre always happy to help.

Natural solutions in action.
Here at Palmstead we work with our partners at Biobest UK to keep crops healthy using biological controls.
In this clip youāll see the Phytoseiulus system being sprinkled, a natural predator used to target spider mites. Itās all part of our integrated pest management (IPM) approach, preventing issues before they develop and reducing reliance on chemical controls.
For us, itās about delivering plants that are not only strong and healthy, but grown in ways that support a more sustainable future.

When should you start thinking about a contract grow?
The earlier, the better.
Ideally, itās a conversation to have while your project is still in the design or planning stage. Many plants take time to reach the right size and quality, especially when youāre working with specific varieties or larger quantities.
Contract growing is particularly valuable for large schemes, public realm projects, and new developments, where consistency across the planting is key.
At Palmstead, we work with you to align the growing schedule with your project timeline, so when the project is ready for planting, the plants are too.
If youāve got a project coming up, itās worth starting the conversation early.

We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nigel Dunnett.
Nigel was a great friend of Palmstead and over the years we had the immense pleasure of hearing him speak at our workshops and working with him on some incredible projects, most notably the Olympic Park and the Barbican.
His impact on our industry will never be forgotten and our thoughts are with his family and all those who loved him at this most difficult time.
Celebrating the next generation of horticulture šæ
For National Gardening Week, weāre shining a light on some of our younger team members and their journeys into the industry. From discovering a passion for plants to building hands-on experience at the nursery, itās great to see the enthusiasm and knowledge coming through.
Each has shared what drew them into horticulture, what they enjoy most and the one plant they think everyone should grow.
Itās a reminder that horticulture offers so many opportunities, and thereās never been a better time to get involved.

Getting ready for the warmer months šæ
Our glasshouse is being whitewashed to help manage light levels and temperature as we head into summer. This process reduces heat build-up and protects plants from excessive sunlight, creating a more stable growing environment.
Itās one of the many ways we prepare the nursery ahead of the season to ensure plants continue to grow in the best possible conditions.
Thank you to Graham & Rob from @skylark_pds_ltd for doing such a fantastic and efficient job š
