@SceneSportsME : As the sun set on the first day of CIB Palm Hills PSA World Championship, organized by @ievents , the attention turned to the glass courts at “At the Hills, Crown Extension” in @palmhillsdevelopments where the top seeds were looking to start squash’s biggest competition on the right foot. Playing with home court advantage, men’s World Number 1 Egyptian Mostafa Asal started his title defence against Germany’s Raphael Kandra while Hania El Hammamy, the women’s number one ranked player, began her bid for a first World Championship with a win against fellow Egyptian Ruqayya Salem.
Peruvian Men’s World Number 3 Diego Elias’s started strong on his quest for a second World Championship against Englishman Nick Wall.
France’s Lauren Batalyan, making her senior world championship debut in the city she was born in, turned heads as she took down England’s World Number 28 Lucy Turmel.
The second half of Round 1 concludes on Saturday as more top seeds, including Egypt’s Karim Abdel Gawad and Nour El Sherbini take the court at Palm Hills.
