February marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time to honor the history, culture, resilience, and contributions of Black people who have shaped this nation and continue to move it forward.
Black history is American history. It is a story of resistance and brilliance, of innovation born in the face of exclusion, and of progress driven by community, faith, and courage. It calls us not only to remember the past, but to confront the present and commit to a more just future.
We are especially proud that members of our Caucus have not only witnessed history, but made it; serving as the first Black Lieutenant Governor, the first Black U.S. Congresswoman from Western Pennsylvania, and the first Black female Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
At the PLBC Foundation, this month reinforces our year-round commitment to uplifting and advocating for Black and Brown voices across the Commonwealth. Through education, scholarship, civic engagement, and strategic partnerships, we work to expand opportunity, amplify underrepresented communities, and invest in the next generation of leaders.
As we reflect, learn, and celebrate this month, may we also recommit ourselves to action, because honoring Black history means advancing Black futures.
