"Alanganin"
(Uncertainty)
18"' x 18"
Acrylic on canvas
November 2021
My most favorite and personal painting to date as it embodies everything I feel about my religious beliefs, whether they are wrapped in doubt or hopefulness or even both at the same time. Somehow, I feel more liberated when I paint about spirituality as opposed to social or political topics. I am not always keen on explaining myself with words, so the colors do the talking for me.
I drew inspiration from Pauline Baynes' artwork on C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia", Kings Kaleidoscope's music video visualizers, Dog Is Dead's album cover for "All Our Favorite Stories" and some medieval religious paintings. Will definitely make more like this.

"Ligaya: Sa Kuko Ng Buwaya"
(Hapiness in the Claws of the Corrupt)
11'' x 14"
Acrylic on paper with ink
August 2020
For context to any potential non-Filipino followers, in the Philippines, we usually associate corrupt politicians with animals: pigs, vipers, or in this case, buwaya (crocodiles). I think that pretty much explains it.

"Beasts of Montalban"
12'' x 14"
Acrylic on canvas with ink
December 2020
Inspired after joining an outreach for the victims of Typhoon Ulysses back in November 2020 in Montalban, Rizal province and seeing the damage wrought by the storm. I interviewed locals who lost absolutely everything...except their hope.

Did this just for fun. My girlfriend and I randomly doodled this creature when we were in Baguio and I just decided to add a little more breath into it.

2022?
Can't recall when I painted this exactly and why I painted it. At some point, I stopped trying to fix it and let it be.

A quick work I did in a coffeeshop in one afternoon during a painting session with a friend to unwind before another long week. I've been editing for a short docu I shot in Cotabato featuring the Obo Manobo tribes so I couldn't help but create a tiny tribute. There's just something about the aesthetics of their culture that makes it so refreshing to put on a canvas.

A very personal and spiritual piece. Canvas provided two years ago as a challenge by my former professor, collaborator, and mentor Rolando Inocencio. Honored that it will be on his walls. 😇

A little birthday gift for my weightlifting mother. It was kinda tricky thinking up something but thankfully my girlfriend gave me the idea.
