The ILTIZAM Seni Art Residency Cycle 3 Exhibition, 'Alir', opens on Thursday, April 30th at 7.30pm.
The residency programme runs over four months, from October 2025 to January 2026, during which the artists share a temporary working and living environment in Karak, Pahang. The residency culminates in an exhibition that positions Karak as an active point of enquiry through which each artist develops their work. Rather than producing a singular reading of place, the artworks reveal how one site can unfold into multiple trajectories of meaning.
Each artist engages Karak through a distinct lens: Aliff approaches landscape as a psychological condition, internalising the terrain as a space of memory and emotional adjustment; Ammar instigates a paradox of authenticity, translating agricultural processes into layered, constructed mechanism; Khairanee celebrates Karak as a spiritual plane, transforming observation into an expansive and animated ecosystem of human and non-human; while Mairul understands Karak as part of a broader network of relations, mapping connections between land, movement, and lived experience.

We are pleased to announce our first residency artist, Ammar Idris.
Ammar Idris (b. 1999) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores alternative modes of thinking and making through materials and processes of meaning-making. His work often engages with memory, human conditions, and emotional landscapes. Working across writing (including sajak), mixed media, video, performance, participatory projects, and installation, Ammar continually pushes the boundaries of creative practice while fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue within contemporary art.
He was a finalist in Bakat Muda Sezaman at the National Art Gallery of Malaysia (2021), and has participated in several residencies and workshops, including Young Artist Talent #11 by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC) in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand (2020), 3x3 Art Residency by George Town Festival (2021), the 17th CRACK International Art Camp in Kushtia, Bangladesh (2023), and ILTIZAM Seni Art Residency (2025–26).
Through his residency, Ammar will explore and respond to the layered social and cultural narratives of Surabaya, developing new work that reflects his ongoing inquiry into lived experience, collective memory, and the possibilities of artistic exchange.
In partnership with C2O Library, Ammar will undertake a one-month residency in Surabaya, engaging with the local context through research, interaction, and experimentation.

The preview of ILTIZAM Seni Art Residency Exhibition, 'Alir' commences on Thursday, April 23rd.
In collaboration with SARENG, this four-month residency marks its third cycle, bringing together four selected artists—Aliff Danial, Ammar Idris, Khairanee Iro, and Mairul Malek.
Guided by the notion of 'Alir'—a Malay word for flow or stream—the residency is conceived as a space of transition, inviting artists to pause, shift, and recalibrate their practices. The surrounding environment—both physical and social—serves as a generative condition for rethinking and reframing artistic approaches. This exhibition marks the culmination of the residency, presenting works developed during a period of incubation. Rather than offering fixed conclusions, the exhibition lingers in the in-between—where ideas emerge, recede, and reconfigure through process.

Catatan Lewat Hujan Sewon merupakan sebuah buku yang diterbitkan secara mandiri mengisi penulisan jurnal harian seorang seniman muda bernama Ammar Idris sewaktu beliau sedang berpameran di sarang Garuda (Indonesia) selama dua minggu.
Buku ini merupakan hasil percubaan beliau untuk berkongsi pengalaman dan rasa yang dilewati beliau sewaktu berada di Sewon, Jogjakarta, Indonesia pada tahun 2022 yang lalu.

Secara keseluruhan, projek buku ini dihasilkan 90% secara mandiri dari segi percetakan, susunan dan ikatan dengan bilangan edisi cetakan terhad. Setiap satu buku disiapkan secara satu per saru menjadikan setiap buku ada sedikit perbezaan kosmetik antara satu sama lain.
