COST PER WEAR | last week I put up a post about our indigo chore jacket, a very kind customer made a comment, talking about how much he wears his, and he mentioned the cost per wear now being in pence rather than pounds. I remembered a campaign that encouraged people to wear their clothes at least 30 times - 30 TIMES?! Thats nothing, especially for favourite pieces.
It seems to me that at the moment that the Cost Per Wear calculation is more important than ever before, certainly more important than simply considering the retail price of a garment - now is a time to invest in clothes that you can, and want to wear almost very day, clothes that are made to last. This is Bens much loved studio jacket, it is just under seven years old, for the first five and a half years he wore it every single day apart from when it needed a wash - I AM NOT JOKING - He now wears the same cut but in a different cloth and rotates the two (he is a creature of habit) so at a conservative calculation of 1500 days of wear for a jacket that costs £170 that makes it 11p per day so far - a bargain. It’s all about the fade with workwear.
We use a lot of brushed cotton canvas in the menswear which gets better and better with age. The Lenham jacket | When we started Pajotten we included a version of this jacket, I still have two originals and wear them all the time so it made sense in our 10th year to bring it back, we took some to @water.lane Spring Fair to test them out and they were sold almost immediately, the first ones have been made in a navy linen but we are going to do them in some other cloth /colours as well, the joy of this jacket is the pocket detail, it looks like a simple pocket with a flap but it actually is a double pocket (see third image) which means it makes it an extremely safe pocket to store your keys and wallet. When we started Pajotten we wanted to create everyday clothes that people would want to wear every day, our design references have always come from simple workwear so its always hugely exciting for us when people genuinely work in them. Faye Magkanari of @_tokamini has been wearing Pajotten for over four years now, and brilliantly she is not afraid of putting her clothes to the test and getting them dirty while she works as a ceramicist, it makes us really happy to see the Potters top and Everyday trousers being worn so well. We have long been a fan of her work so when a few months ago she launched @_tokamini officially we treated ourselves to some of her collection and now enjoy drinking from her mugs at the workshop, I swear it makes every drink taste better.
