Does Spraying Use More Paint? Yes. But Here’s Why It’s 100% Worth It! Let’s be real—spraying does use more paint (about 30% more in our experience). But here’s the game-changer: labour vs. material costs aren’t even a contest. We just sprayed a ceiling, adding 20% water for a smooth, flawless finish. The result took less time and was all done from the ground. A quick mask-up of lights, and that’s it—job done! Yes, you’ll use more paint. But you’ll make WAY more profit. Work smarter, not harder. This is what it actually looks like behind the scenes at the academy. No fluff. No theory. Just real kitchens, real pressure, and real work. We’ve got a full kitchen in, doors everywhere, lads on the tools, and a group of 6 learning the process properly—from prep through to finish. Here’s the truth most won’t tell you… We don’t sell gear. We don’t push machines. We don’t tell you “this is the only way.” We use it. We test it. Then we put it in your hands. Today alone we’ve got different setups being used side by side—because that’s the reality of the job. You need to understand what works, not just what someone’s trying to sell you. Most training providers will try to flog you something. We teach you what actually works… and more importantly, what we got wrong—so you don’t have to. If you’re serious about getting into kitchen spraying (or levelling up), come and see it for yourself. 👉 Check out the Kitchen Painting Network to see the standard we work to. #KitchenSpraying #AirlessSpraying #PainterAndDecorator #UKTrades #SprayPainting #KitchenRespray #DecoratorLife #PaintTech #LearnATrade #OnTheTools

“Very relaxed and friendly approach… which helps a lot when trying something new.” That’s exactly what Venetian plaster needs. Because this isn’t an easy skill. It’s detailed. It’s creative. It takes patience. But when you’re in the right environment… ✔ You understand the materials ✔ You learn the techniques ✔ You build confidence on the tools And suddenly it starts to make sense. Over 3 days, it’s not about mastering it — it’s about giving you the foundation to go away, practise, and start creating finishes you can actually sell. That’s where it all begins. One of the biggest upgrades you can make when spraying… 👉 Learning to work two-handed It’s a small shift, but it makes a massive difference on site. Right hand controls the gun. Left hand controls the hose (unless you are left handed of course) That simple setup gives you: ✔ More control over your finish ✔ Fluid movement around the job ✔ Less resistance from the hose ✔ A much more comfortable way of working Because let’s be honest… Spraying on site isn’t like being in a booth. You’re moving through rooms, around obstacles, up, down — constantly adjusting. And having control of the hose just makes everything flow better. It’s one of those habits that, once you pick it up, you’ll never go back. #spraypainting #paintsprayer #decoratorsuk #painterdecorator #spraytips #airlesssprayer #tradesuk #decoratingtips #kitchenspraying #paintlife #sprayfinish #constructionuk #tradetraining #painttech #spraying #onsitework #professionaldecorator #spraytechnique #uktrades #decoratorlife

Introducing Golden Finish Awards Judge: Ian Crump 👏 @painttechuk Ian brings over 35 years in the painting and decorating trade, with more than 25 years specialising in spray application, long before it became mainstream in the UK. He built his reputation across multiple areas of the trade, developing as a decorative artist and Venetian plasterer, working on some incredible projects around the world, Saudi, the Middle East, and Europe. One of his favourites was a three-year restoration at the Royal Albert Hall… plus quite a few others that can’t be mentioned (he’s gutted) That level doesn’t come without graft.
And it definitely doesn’t come without mistakes. He’s made them all — long before most of you even picked up a sprayer. That’s what shaped his approach: “We’ve made all the mistakes… so hopefully others don’t have to.” Over time, Ian became one of the early pioneers of spray finishing in the trade — refining techniques and building systems that actually work on site, not just in theory. He went on to found PaintTech Training Academy, which trains thousands of decorators across the UK, and to build the Spraying Makes Sense Facebook group — now the largest independent, unbiased spraying community in the trade. No brand agenda.
No product pushing.
Just decorators helping decorators. Because for Ian, it’s always been about something bigger: 👉 “Raise the Respect. Raise the Rate.” That runs through everything — PaintTech, the Kitchen Painting Network, the Decorators Growth Club — all built to help decorators improve their skills, build proper systems, and earn what they’re worth. As a judge, Ian brings decades of real-world experience and a straight-talking view on what actually separates good work from proper work. “Anyone can get a good result…
The real skill is being able to repeat it, day in, day out.” Ian wishes all nominees the best of luck — “Putting your work forward takes guts. That alone shows you care about your standards… and that’s what this trade needs more of.” #gfawards #awards #decorator #paintinganddecoratingawards #awardwinning

“Lots of information on equipment, safety, pricing… and hands-on spraying.” That’s the difference. It’s not just about pulling the trigger — it’s understanding the full process behind it. Because spraying properly isn’t just a skill… it’s a system. ✔ The right setup ✔ The right safety approach ✔ The right pricing ✔ The right technique All delivered in a relaxed, friendly environment where you can actually take it in. That’s how you build confidence. That’s how you get results. Want to see what others are saying? Just check us out on Trustpilot or Google. #PaintTech #KitchenSpraying #DecoratorsUK #PainterDecorator #SprayPainting #TradeSkills #LearnATrade #ConstructionUK #Upskill

Old school marketing… does it still work? Flyers. Leaflet drops. Local advertising. Be honest… Are you still doing it? And more importantly— 👉 Is it actually bringing in work? We’re seeing more and more people rely purely on social media… but let’s be real, at the moment it’s getting harder to get consistent results. So the question is: Have we all moved away from something that still works? Or are we wasting time on methods that don’t deliver anymore? 👇 We genuinely want to know: Are you still doing leaflet drops? What kind of return are you seeing? Or have you completely switched to digital? No fluff. No theory. Just real answers from people doing the work. Drop your experience below 👇 #DecoratorLife #UKTrades #PainterAndDecorator #MarketingForTrades #LeadGeneration #SmallBusinessUK #TradeBusiness #OldSchoolMarketing #Flyers #LeafletDrop

Sprayer run out of paint? This is where a lot of decorators panic… but it’s actually a simple fix. When your machine starts pulling air, you’ll hear it straight away — that roaring sound. All you need to do is: • Drop the pressure • Switch to prime • Let it purge the air • Watch the bubbles clear • Bring the pressure back up That’s it. You’re back spraying. No need to touch the gun. No need to overcomplicate it. It’s small things like this that make a big difference on site — and exactly what we cover on our Intensive Airless Course. #PaintTech #AirlessSpraying #DecoratorsUK #SprayPainting #PainterDecorator #TradeSkills #ConstructionUK #OnSite #LearnATrade
