Erica Sutandi @ericasutandi with a Feature on Munchies Art Club 💯💫💯
Behind every soft pink and blue tile lies a quiet revolution. Erica Sutandi paints from the inside out — capturing the unspoken, the paused, the almost-breaking moments of everyday life.
You ever walk into a room and feel something’s off — but can’t quite name it? That’s the emotional terrain she paints. A swimmer kneeling by the water.
A woman at a vanity while someone sleeps behind her. A nun pouring wine like it’s an ancient ritual. These aren’t just scenes — they’re psychological standoffs.
Her women don’t pose. They endure. They don’t perform — they withhold.
The palette feels institutional, but every color is charged. Once you notice the tension, it won’t let you go. Sutandi doesn’t raise her voice — she lingers. And you feel it, long after you scroll past.
🔥 Standout artist from Indonesia. Brave. Sharp. Unflinching.
Follow her journey and dive into a new wave of contemporary figurative painting.

We are delighted to announce the launch of “A Spoonful of Sugar in Your Cup of Tea:
Reflections on Colonialism and Discrimination.”
“A Spoonful of Sugar in Your Cup of Tea” is an extension of our collective learning efforts
and serves as a platform for dialogue among creatives from diverse backgrounds. It brings
together individuals who share common spaces—one in Indonesia and another in the United
Kingdom. This collaboration between Pustaka Pias and Small Fry Collective was initiated and
co-published by Delphi Suhariyanto and Titis Embun Ayu, supported by the British Council’s
Connections Through Culture Grant.
Through a series of focus group discussions, artistic creations, and an online public showcase,
this book weaves together the voices and visions of 17 remarkable creatives. These individuals
bravely confront and reflect on the enduring legacies of colonialism, racism, sexism, and
nationalism, offering a thought-provoking and hopeful glimpse into a future where positive social
change prevails through their stories and artistic expressions.
We invite you to dive into this reflective journey, celebrate diverse perspectives from various
communities, and experience the transformative power of creativity.

“There’s No Place in Between” represents about Chinese-Indonesian (often referred as Chindo) that lived in vigilance as a scapegoat because of colonialization roots. While economic inequality and social jealousy are the main cause of the discrimination, it also aggravated by the fact of identity segregation in politics. Aside from May 1998 Riots, there were lots of rules and policies in Old and New Order that inflicted and restricted Chinese-Indonesian’s freedom as an Indonesian citizen.
