This morning around 4am Nhu woke me up and said "You need to see this." She led me downstairs to the sight of these 5 deer sitting peacefully on our front lawn. In the dark silence of Easter morning, it was both haunting and beautiful. It also felt like a special omen as later this year we will become a family of 5 (Nhu is due early September and we planned to tell our families today). Christ is Risen everywhere and in everything. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

My goal this year is to re-create this photo of my parents and their friends, but with the new generation. I think the hardest part will be us trying to look half as cool. #OriginalHipsters #Detroit #80s

In 1981 my dad rescued this building from demolition, made it the first loft building in Detroit and put his studio in the front. He hosted incredible parties, and kept the doors open to the neighborhood to which he credits his creative inspiration.  While my studio business is doing great, we were ready to move out of property ownership — and I don’t think we could’ve found a better steward than Paddy and Nhu to buy the building. Not just because they are maintaining me as a studio tenant, putting a donut shop in the storefront(!), or gifted us this incredible portrait of the building at closing . . . but because of the way they have already opened the doors to the community . . . my dad would be happy! Keep up the great work — we love you guys!

In Loving Memory of Ameen Howrani (1941-2010). This photo was taken in 1981, the year Ameen saved the building from demolition.

come to this year’s big show / look at pictures from last year’s big show / CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH & TRIBUTE TO GEORGE HARRISON NOVEMBER 22 we had the best time last year and we’re doing it again this year, but going even bigger. ‘the last waltz’ is near and dear to us, but instead of running it again, we’ve supersized the band and will be showing ‘the concert for bangladesh’ and performing our favorite george harrison songs. this will be an all star show and a once in a lifetime performance. tickets are available on our website, linked in the bio. dinner and the film screening start at 6:00, and the live show goes on at 8:00. the sauna will be open, and you are welcome to steam any time. proceeds to benefit @thrive.schoolmeals , providing school meals to children in bangladesh and pakistan.

ES IST ZEIT! OKTOBERFEST STARTS TODAY! Join us for the best season of the year, as we celebrate community and culture together with beer, sausages, schnitzel, live music, and so many friends old and new. This is our 93rd season and we have been hard at work preparing for ten nights of revelry with you! Tonight is the first night, and we will commemorate with a tapping of the ceremonial cask around 7:00. The dining room is open at 4:00, and food will be served until late. We’ve acquired every imported Festbier and Märzen available in the state, in bottles and with a rotating selection on draft. We have the full menu inside and also will be serving sausages and snacks out there with open seating. For the full dining experience inside, reservations for tonight, the 26th, are full. So if you aren’t booked, plan to come right at 4 or eat later in the evening, after 8. We will have some space for walk-ins. Reservations for festival season can be made by phone for the remainder of the Oktoberfest nights, and online for other dates. We will have live music with a full band every Friday and Saturday, in the yard whenever possible, and inside if the weather does not agree. When the full band is outside, we will have our traditional piano and sing along entertainment inside while you dine. There is a $5 cover on Fridays and Saturdays for the band, and it applies for dining seating or to hang out in the biergarten or rathskeller. We are open on Thursdays with our standard entertainment, and there is no cover fee those nights. For dinners, we ask that you keep your time at the table to two hours or less, so that we may be able to serve more guests. Your party is welcome to stay as long as they like in the yard and enjoy the festivities. The basement Rathskeller bar will be open with a fantastic wine list of the most exciting wines from Germany and Austria, the most exciting regions in wine!

first night back was special. why is it on a men’s night? because men’s night kept this club alive for a long time. some of these guys pictured have been coming for more than fifty years. now it gets to be a club for everybody. and there’s nothing quite like it. open seven days a week. best heat in town. good food every day. quality merchandise. if you haven’t been, see why everybody’s talkin’.
