Part 3 of our conversation exploring the future of wine packaging. Packamama bottles are not just designed to help reduce carbon emissions, they are also designed with consumers in mind. Shatterproof, lightweight, easier to carry, and designed to fit more efficiently into shelves, fridges, bags, and even suitcases. The goal is simple. Rethink the packaging without changing anything people love about wine. Smarter packaging. Same wine experience. #Packamama #SustainablePackaging #WineIndustry #PackagingInnovation #CircularEconomy #FutureOfWine #RecycledPET

Climate change is no longer a distant concern for the wine industry. It is already impacting vineyards, harvests, water availability, and the future of traditional wine regions around the world. In ā€œClimate and Wine: Holding Onā€, Alan Ramey highlights an uncomfortable contradiction within the industry: ā€œCritics can point out the irony of a producer employing meticulous environmental precision in a vineyard, only to bottle a product in heavy, relatively inefficient, and energy intensive small containers, send it around the worldā€¦ā€ That question sits at the heart of why Packamama exists. While vineyards work hard to adapt to climate pressures, packaging and transport also have a major role to play in reducing emissions across the wine supply chain. By redesigning the traditional wine bottle using recycled PET, Packamama helps reduce weight, improve transport efficiency, and lower carbon emissions without changing the wine inside. Same 750ml of wine. A completely smarter bottle design. bulb In part two of our conversation, we discuss how Packamama’s flat bottles use recycled PET to reduce weight, improve transport efficiency, and help lower carbon emissions across the supply chain. At just 63 grams, Packamama bottles are 84% lighter than a typical glass wine bottle while remaining fully recyclable and part of the circular economy. Less weight. Less waste. Lower emissions. #Packamama #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy #WineIndustry

Big ideas often start with a simple question. Why are we still shipping wine in a shape designed centuries ago? In this conversation, Keely and Ellie talk about how Packamama set out to challenge convention by rethinking the bottle itself. The result is a smarter, more efficient design that helps reduce transport emissions, improve logistics, and support a more sustainable future for drinks packaging. Sometimes innovation is not about adding more. It is about changing what no longer makes sense. #Packamama #SustainablePackaging #PackagingInnovation #WineIndustry #CircularEconomy #DrinksIndustry #SupplyChainInnovation

We’re proud to share that Packamama has joined @WRAP 's UK Packaging Pact as a founding member, alongside 100 organisations from across the packaging value chain. The Pact is a ten year, cross sector initiative focused on transforming how packaging is designed, used and recovered in the UK, helping drive progress towards a more circular, lower emissions future. For Packamama, it is an important opportunity to ensure wine packaging is part of that wider conversation. ā€œThe UK Packaging Pact is exactly the kind of collaborative initiative needed to help move packaging forward at pace,ā€ said Santiago Navarro, CEO & Founder of Packamama. ā€œWine has its own specific challenges and considerations, and by joining the Pact we can help ensure those are part of the conversation from the outset. We are proud to join as a founding member and to bring a start-up voice to the table – one shaped by innovation, commercial experience, and a clear focus on how circular solutions can work in practice for wine. We have already had the pleasure of collaborating with fellow signatories including Aldi and Tesco, and we hope the Pact will help create further momentum for the advancement of wine packaging in the years ahead.ā€ We look forward to working with fellow members to help shape practical, scalable solutions for the future of packaging. Our colleague Anna Mantchakidi recently attended a @caw.syd Climate Action Week Sydney event at @greenhousetech_ Hub, bringing together founders and investors in a refreshingly informal, founder focused format. The evening featured quick fire one minute pitches from climate investors, followed by questions from a founder judging panel and open discussion with the audience. It then moved into relaxed networking, creating space for meaningful conversations and early relationship building. Events like this are a valuable reminder that collaboration and access to the right partners are key to scaling climate solutions. It was also great to see the connection to the wider ecosystem, including Greenhouse, @tamburlaineorganicwines and the broader Climate Action Week Sydney programme. Hopefully, the attendees enjoyed Tamburlaine’s ā€˜Lizard Drinking’ in Packamama bottles whilst there! Momentum is clearly building across the sector, and it is encouraging to see more platforms designed to bring founders and investors together in a practical, accessible way. #ClimateTech #ClimateActionWeekSydney #Sustainability #Startups #Investment

Sometimes you’ve got to step out, move differently and enjoy the moment. That’s how real change happens. Not by blending in, but by standing out and showing there’s another way to do things. At Packamama, we did exactly that with the wine bottle. A fresh shape, a smarter design, and a new rhythm for sustainability. šŸ·ā™»ļø

Our Innovation Executive Keely Pakes and intern Ellie Roper recently attended a live podcast recording, If Nature Made Plastic, featuring Insiya Jafferjee, co-founder and CEO of @shellworks_ . The session explored Vivomer, a material designed to behave like plastic but compost like food. Created using bacteria rather than fossil fuels, it offers a compelling alternative for reducing end of life impact and rethinking how materials are produced and disposed of. At Packamama, we are constantly exploring new materials and technologies that could support the next phase of sustainable packaging. Hearing first hand how Shellworks has developed and scaled their innovation was both insightful and inspiring. Encouraging to see ideas like this gaining traction and helping to shape a more sustainable future for packaging. #SustainablePackaging #MaterialInnovation #CircularEconomy #ClimateTech

Recently, Santiago and Ellie took part in the @soenecs Skills Bootcamp in Circular Economy, joined by a cohort of business owners, start-ups and policy makers who are actively exploring how circular principles can be applied in real world settings. Santiago delivered an Innovator Insights session, sharing Packamama’s journey, our approach to rethinking wine packaging, and what comes next as we continue to develop lower carbon solutions. The session was followed by a thoughtful Q&A, with strong engagement from a group already deep into circular economy thinking and opportunity assessments within their own organisations. Programmes like this play an important role in bridging theory and practice, giving professionals the tools and confidence to embed circular models into everyday decision making. Thank you to Dr David Greenfield, MD at SOENECS and their team, and everyone involved for creating such an engaged and forward-thinking environment. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation #ClimateAction #SkillsDevelopment

We’re pleased to have Ellie Roper joining us at Packamama for a 6 week internship as part of the @smith_gls Smith Global Leadership Scholars Program from Tennessee, USA. Ellie is studying Business Management with a focus on International Business, and is spending time with the team to gain hands on experience across our work in sustainable packaging and innovation. It’s been great to have her involved so far, and we’re looking forward to the weeks ahead. Hopefully, Ellie’s mum enjoyed her visit to the office too!
