Givenchy by Alexander McQueen SS 1997 Couture | “Search for the Golden Fleece”
I will never get over McQueen's debut for the Givenchy house.
The collection based on the myth of the Golden Fleece, was the perfect mix of a young McQueen's signature marks with sharp tailoring, the use of lace and avant-garde looks, with the hallmarks of Givenchy.
However, we all know that Lee would never make a collection based simply on white and gold, but rather had a need to please Givenchy's traditional clientele and, above all, try to match his predecessor: John Galliano.
At the end, the show was heavily criticized, and classified as vulgar, ordinary and amateur. But we must not forget that this was the first contact of the young designer with the world of Couture, and as he later stated:
“Of course I make mistakes. I'm human. If I didn't make mistakes, I'd never learn. You can only go forward by making mistakes”
Christian Dior by John Galliano FW 1997 | “The Geisha Collection”
Young, seductive and irreverent, I will just say that this is one of my favorite collections ever.
