Initially conceived as one project, the Muscowpetung Worship Centre and Indoor Sweat & Ceremony Lodge are located on separate sites. This does not impede the fact that together they provide Muscowpetung Nation with space that supports togetherness, spiritual strength and healing. This principle is reinforced with the clarity of design echoed in both projects - economical light-frame wood construction and overall expression touching the land.

Over the past year we have been working with members on the planning and design of two separate built projects, the Muscoweptung Worship Centre and Indoor Sweat & Ceremony Lodge. These structures will provide a once in a generation opportunity for the Muscowpetung Nation to bridge cultures, religions and spiritual practices in the hopes that these buildings become symbols of unity, strength and healing.

We had an ‘aha moment’ when we were iterating conceptual roof plans for Keeseekoose First Nation’s new cultural grounds and arbour design. It started to come together with the overlay of a traditional star blanket pattern. The pattern provided a consistent radial grid that optimizes structural spans while drawing on a cultural reference that reinforces a sense of community, healing and pride.
